Casual Fine Dining with Starbucks

it's been quite a while since I updated this blog.. so sorry, blame it to the work load, as always :P anyway, on February 1, 2012, I was invited by the lovely Corry Tjong to attend Casual Fine Dining with Starbucks Indonesia.. located at Starbucks Tempo Scan Pacific Ground Floor, the Casual Fine Dining should be started on 7 p.m sharp.. however, due to the terrible traffic of Rasuna Said street, I finally reached on 7.45 p.m.. it's so late that I didn't get the chance to try their new drink.. so sad :(

anyway, Starbucks actually introduced two new drinks, Vanilla Latte and Valencia Macchiato (the picture above was taken from Starbucks' Winter 2012 Media Kit CD).. their Vanilla Latte is described as rich, full-bodied espresso and vanilla syrup with hot milk and topped with a little foam.. while their Valencia Macchiato is a blend of sweet valencia orange with hot milk and foam, poured with espresso and garnished with honey valencia drizzle.. both drinks were surely tempting.. I'm going to nearest Starbucks and try those drinks haha..

well, this is the main reason we were invited.. Guatemala Casi Cielo coffee.. casi cielo actually means "almost heaven", it was characterized by rich, elegant and smooth coffee taste.. this coffee is originated from four coffee plantation in Antigua (a part of Guatemala region) where the best coffee come from.. to be honest, I don't drink black coffee, but I made an exception for this one.. it smelled really good and actually tasted nice and light.. it was such a perfect companion for sweet snacks.. love it..

Starbucks Fruit Toast (Rp19,000) was my choice to accompany the casi cielo.. it was toasted whole wheat bread which was mixed with dried fruits, including cranberry, dark raisins, apricots, papaya, pumpkin, sunflower seeds and assorted nuts.. what do I think? of course I love it.. especially after putting some butter on top of it.. a perfect way to have breakfast and start your day plus it was whole wheat which was healthier..

next, we have tokyo cheese danish (Rp21,000).. it was soft and sweet buttery bread filled with cream cheese.. I love the bread, which was really soft.. and perfectly mixed with cream cheese.. this bread with a hot black coffee would be a match made in heaven.. yum yum..

mango lychee layered cake (Rp30,000).. to be honest, this one is my favorite.. a soft creamy cake filled with mango and lychee then wrapped with lapis legit.. it's east meet west dish and it's one of Starbucks way to celebrate Chinese new year.. I love the creamy cake so much that I just can't stop.. the lapis legit also tasted nice.. but I choose to eat those separately since combining it was not too acceptable in my tongue.. I think too much taste confused my taste buds..

so, you're not a sweet tooth head? well, Starbucks have thought about that.. introducing Chicken Caesar Wrap and Tuna Tomato Wrap (Rp33,000 each).. both dish was made from tortilla filled with creamy, herb chicken and cheddar cheese or tuna salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese.. both dishes were meant to be served cold.. they both tasted really good but I personally love the tuna..

at the end of the day, it's not Starbucks if they let you walk away empty-handed.. a cup of hot white chocolate mocha was given to us.. it was heavenly.. and a goody bag!! yearly planner of my dream and a cute candy cane glass accompanied with casi cielo and those food (dancing happily).. thank you so much Starbucks.. *hugs & kisses*

Pesto Autentico

Pesto Autentico is a quite popular Italian eatery in Jakarta.. located in the strategic Thamrin Nine building, Central Jakarta.. I have been willing to try this restaurant since a while ago, but have no chance until I found the deal from disdus.. oh how I love discounted food :) I have made my reservation for a lunch on 31st of December 2011.. I know it's been like a month ago, but please do forgive me, I have loads of work to do.. once we arrived, I was amazed by the beautiful indoor.. high ceilings with very neat arranged dining table.. I directly fell in love with this place..

upon arrival, we were given the free bread.. typical Italian restaurant, which makes me even more in love with Italian food.. the bread was soft and warm.. I usually add a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil to make it a nice appetizers..

it was one hot afternoon and looking at the drink menu, I was attracted to have pesto signature tea (Rp35,000) while my brother picked the usual iced cappucinno (Rp35,000).. pesto signature tea was such a perfect choice.. it was cold and refreshing with mixed fruits in it.. I love it so much.. my bro's ice cappucinno was just okay, I mean, nothing could go wrong with cappucinno..

to start our meal, my bro wanted to have salad, and to be safe, we picked the usual caesar salad (Rp43,000).. to our surprise, it came in a really small portion.. I was expecting some more for such price.. a few romaine lettuce leaves, boiled egg, bread crumbs, bacon bits topped with cheese and mixed with caesar dressing.. it tasted good, but I was disappointed with the portion..

the disdus voucher allowed us to have one pizza, one pasta and one salad/dessert.. there are several type of pizzas that we can choose and we decided to have rustica pizza (Rp59,000).. a combination of tomato sauce, mozzarella, cooked ham and mushrooms.. the pizza crust was thin and crunchy while the toppings were generous.. I always like this kind of thin crust pizza and I can't complain about the toppings.. it was a nice pizza, but not extraordinarily great..

for pasta, we were allowed to pick any type under Rp100k.. this time, my bro made his choice of fettucinne alla pescatora (Rp85,000).. home-made pasta served with béchamel sauce, shrimps and squids.. I believed it was my first time eating fresh pasta and I'm loving it.. moreover, the pasta was al dente.. my tongue really like what it tasted.. combined with the light white sauce which was just perfect combined with the generous shrimps and squids.. I was definitely in love with the pasta..

to complete our lunch, we asked for our pannacotta (Rp40,000).. an Italian dessert made from mixing cream, milk and sugar with gelantine.. it was my first time trying it and I love it.. the texture was very soft and gooey.. I can taste a little rum in it and when mixed with chocolate sauce, I've just found a joy for my tongue..

overall, I had a great lunch at Pesto Autentico.. the service was satisfying.. the atmosphere, ambiance and interior was top-notch.. the pasta was great.. I love this place and I love disdus for having the voucher :)

it was a lunch date with my very best friend.. lately, we have a lot of things to share that we always find a way to meet.. thanks a lot for accompanying me yaa :) it was almost new year, and we wanted to have a small talk over lunch.. looking around our neighborhood turn into a restaurant alley, we decided to have some thai cuisine and when he mentioned Siam Garden, I basically just agreed.. it was located in home/office lane in Green Garden area.. not too crowded when we arrived, just the way we like, so we can have a chat without being disturbed by noisy crowd..

Thai Iced Tea (Rp15,000) - Thai Iced Coffee (Rp15,000)

he picked Thai Ice Tea (Rp15,000) and I picked Thai Ice Coffee (Rp15,000).. both tasted nice and not overly sweet.. it was milky and I just love them :) for me, the minus point was it was such a small portion haha.. me want more of those..

Pad Thai (Rp36,000)

yes, there was just the two of us, but we somehow ordered so many menus haha.. apparently we're just too greedy.. first to come is asparagus with dried shrimps which tasted really nice.. the asparagus was nicely cooked, tasted crunchy and went really well with the shrimp paste and dried shrimps.. the tom yam kai was another great choice, we picked chicken as our meat.. the tom yum soup tasted sourly refreshing and the fillings was very generous.. I love the cilantro leaves inside.. yum yum..

another must-order food in a Thai restaurant is fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves.. the chicken was tender but it wasn't well-seasoned, in my opinion.. it was just okay.. lastly, we had pad thai.. it came in a huge portion with generous fillings and tasted really nice.. I have always been a fan of pad thai and this one was no exception.. I love it..

overall, I had a great dining experience at Siam Garden.. good food, nice service combined with a cozy atmosphere shared with best friend was such a perfect day for me :)

Paulaner Bräuhaus

girlfriends time!!! it was December 29, 2011 and I have a date with my 3 girlfriends.. we wanted to have dinner in style then continue to enjoy Jakarta's night life.. actually, I don't know whether having dinner at Paulaner Bräuhaus should be considered fancy or stylish.. but whatever, I don't even care haha.. joining us were our two male friends so it was a party of six.. a friend of mine had made a reservation so we have our table directly after we arrived.. it was Thursday night and the place was full but not too crowded.. anyway, I like the uniforms of the waiters and waitresses which really made me feel like in Germany.. no, I haven't been there, just to describe how much I like it :P

located in East Mall of Grand Indonesia Shopping Town, the restaurant is quite large, dominated in wooden furniture and dimmed light.. I love the atmosphere here, it was cozy, relaxing and comfortable.. they even have a live band that night with jazz songs.. lucky for us, on Thursday, Paulaner Bräuhaus have a promotion of Lady's Night where girls can order food with free drinks.. YAY to free stuffs haha.. those are the plus points which officially make me a fan of Paulaner Bräuhaus..

Lychee Mint Elixir - Love Potion No. 9

as a part of the Thursday promotion, we are given two free drinks for any platter ordered.. so we picked Lychee Mint Elixir (Rp81,818) and Love Potion No. 9 (Rp81,818).. our lychee mint elixir tasted just like a cherry cough syrup haha.. none of us like it.. it has this bitter-sweet weird taste.. on the other hand, love potion no. 9 is simply my favorite.. it has a little sweet and sour hint, which was very refreshing, with just a little alcohol.. I have to say I don't drink alcohol.. not that I'm against it, it just they don't fit my taste buds..

De Bortolli Sacred Hill Cabernet Merlot

a friend of mine has decided to not drink any alcohol other than wine, so she asked whether we wanted to share a bottle, since the price of one glass was just ridiculous.. all of us agreed, including me, since I haven't tried wine before.. yes, I'm that girl next door who don't drink alcohol and have never tried wine haha.. looking at the wine menu, she decided to pick De Bortolli Sacred Hill Cabernet Merlot (Rp650,000 per bottle or Rp180,000 per glass).. it's a red wine type and just as I expected, I don't like it haha.. it's a little sourish bitter and tasted really warm in my throat.. as most of us were new to wine, my friend gave a "Wine 101" class that night when I learn about how to hold a wine glass and how to drink wine properly haha.. thank you :)

Knusprige Schweinshaxe mit Sauerkraut, Serviettenknödel und Bratensoss

first dish to arrive is schweinshaxe or crispy pork knuckle (Rp220,000) served with sauerkraut, bread dumplings and gravy ordered by one of our male friend.. and it was HUGE.. I have never seen such a huge pork knuckle.. it was roasted until the skin was very crunchy while the meat inside was very tender.. let me tell you that it was really delicious.. not surprising since this dish is one of the best Germany dish.. I know the huge amount of fat going in my body while tasting it, but it was just irresistible.. I LOVE IT..

Paulaner Platter

as for the four girls, we decided to share Paulaner Platter (Rp250,000) consisted of smoked pork chop, three types of sausages (Thueringer, Vienna and Nuremberger), meatloaf and crispy pork knuckle served with sauerkraut and mashed potato.. as you can all guess, I love those meaty, fatty porks meat haha.. my favorite other than the pork knuckle, would be the sausage but I'm not quite sure which one is which.. the mashed potato has a very mushy texture with a hint of sweetness, and the sauerkraut was just too sour for me..

Thüringer Bratwürste mit Sauerkraut

the latest dish to arrive was gegrillte Thüringer Bratwürste mit Sauerkraut or grilled Thueringer sausage served with sauerkraut (Rp90,000).. it finally arrived after all of us had finished our dinner and made complains.. Thueringer sausages was made of fine minced pork blended with other ingredients then filled into pork intestine.. well, tasted just as good as the ones in our paulaner platter only took a lot longer to arrive..

overall, I had a great night at Paulaner Bräuhaus.. a lot of laughter and stories were shared.. great food, great atmosphere and great friends.. what could be better?

QQ Kopitiam

another kopitiam post.. this business is surely growing like mushrooms in Jakarta.. this time I visit QQ Kopitiam located in Plaza Indonesia.. it was decorated nicely in an old Chinese style with wooden chairs and marble tables.. I love their table number, by the way.. I have heard about this place for a while and I heard they serve good food and drinks with affordable price.. I guessed, that's the main reason it was very packed during lunch hour..

as my brother is back in town, there were three of us hanging out.. my mom, as usual, go with her hot coffee choice and she decided to have hot kopi tarik (Rp15,000) while I picked iced kopi tarik (Rp17,000).. my brother decided to have yin yang peng (Rp17,000) which was a combination of tea and coffee with milk.. first impression, the coffee smells really good.. and they taste just as good as they smell.. I love my coffee so much.. a good composition of coffee, cream and sugar.. my mom and brother also love their drinks.. thumbs up :)

it was lunch time and I was really hungry.. the food menu was not too various.. the choices were only between noodles, vermicelli, rice noodles or rice dishes.. I decided to have mie kangkung terasi (Rp28,000).. it didn't take long for it to come out and it came in a sizzling hot stone pot.. noodle and water spinach cooked in terasi and egg broth complimented with squids and shrimps.. the portion was not too big, which was just perfect for my stomach.. so how did it taste? well, it was very tasty and delicious.. I love everything about this dish, actually.. me want more..

my mom picked horfun daging kepiting (Rp28,000).. it was rice noodle cooked in thick egg and crab meat broth then served with shrimps and fish balls.. it also came in a hot stone pot but unlike my noodle, this one didn't look too appetizing.. it tasted quite good but a little too bland for my tongue.. it was just an okay dish, in my opinion..

overall, I think I had a great experience eating here.. good food, great coffee and affordable price.. it's kinda hard to find such a price for food in Plaza Indonesia.. I will definitely come back for more..

Killiney Kopitiam

my mom and I have our regular mother-daughter shopping time on weekends.. and during that hectic activities, we usually pick a place for us to rest our feet and treat ourselves drinks.. last week, as we were in Senayan City, we noticed Killiney Kopitiam on the 5th floor.. it was quite catchy and so we decided to give it a try.. it is said that this coffee shop has opened its first store in Singapore since 1919.. well, such a long history for a kopitiam..

I ordered ice coffee tariek (Rp22,272).. it is available in a regular size and a larger size called mammoth ice coffee tariek (Rp27,272).. it came in a tall glass and even the regular portion is quite large.. it tasted really nice and not overly sweet, just the way I like.. it took me only ten minutes to finish my drink.. that's how much I love it..

my mom always love hot coffee, so she decided to order hot coffee c (Rp18,181).. unfortunately, it was not hot enough for her standard and a bit too sweet for her liking.. in her opinion, the coffee tasted a bit sour, typical Arabica cofee.. it was just okay in her opinion..

to accompany our coffee time, we ordered wheat kaya butter (Rp17,272).. toasted wheat bread filled with kaya jam and butter.. in my opinion, it tasted really good.. a little healthier option because of the wheat bread.. and the kaya jam, again, not overly sweet.. too bad, it was not too hot that the butter didn't melt..

overall, I think Killiney Kopitiam is just another kopitiam.. nothing was really special.. but luckily, their coffee tariek has got me addicted.. will I come back? perhaps, only for their coffee tariek..

Naughty Nuri's Warung, Jakarta

Greenville area has grown resembling Muara Karang where you can find almost any type of food around here.. Naughty Nuri's Warung, which was very famous in Bali, has opened their branch.. it was a house turned into restaurant, decorated in Balinese ornaments here and there.. as we arrived, we were welcomed by the main entrance gate in Balinese style.. going further inside, a lot of Bali paintings and piggies ornaments are found around the restaurant.. the restaurant was quite humble with simple wooden chair and tables.. their menu is embedded to a chop board, making a nice, cute touch..

it was their pork ribs (Rp95,000) which became my main reason to visit.. it was one full slab of ribs marinated in sweet sauce.. a little lime juice to enhance the taste and you are set.. it came in quite a huge portion, luckily it was a shared menu.. the meat were very tender as it easily cut from the bones.. grilled well done, but not too much to make it dry, the meat was juicy and addictive.. the sauce was a bit too sweet for me, but doesn't really influence the whole eating experience..

overall, I guess I have to thank God for letting Naughty Nuri's Warung opened near my neighborhood.. or, perhaps I should regret for it will definitely ruin my diet? :P

well, I guess time does fly.. I just can't believe that it's 2012 already.. so many great things happen during 2011 and I'm truly thankful for that.. I have been really blessed throughout the year.. a great God who has been guiding me all year long.. great family and friends to hang out with.. a great job to earn some money.. well, of course, there were some rocky road along my journey.. but overall 2011 has been really great.. thank You, Lord :)

during Christmas and New Year holiday, my mom's habit is to prepare cookies as both her children have the year-end holiday.. her favorite cookies to make would be nastaart and kaasstengels.. nastaart is cookies filled with pineapple jam while kaasstengels is Dutch cheese sticks.. and last year, she added raisin oatmeal cookies to accompany the other two.. how did they taste? well, they are all great.. another thing to be thankful for, a great baker mother..

anyeong haseyo.. I am a fan of K-drama.. watching those series a lot finally make me curious about their food.. I have been noticing Han Gang since a while ago, but only last week I had the chance to visit.. it was quite crowded when we arrived but we managed to get our table soon.. the restaurant was not too spacious, decorated in black wooden furniture.. the menu is very thick so it's quite hard for us to open and go through it one by one hahaha..

the special thing about Korean restaurant is that they always serve banchan.. as we were only two persons, there are only seven types of banchan served.. looking at other tables with more visitors, there are a lot more types of banchan.. ours consisted of stir-fried spicy mixed veggies, beansprout, tiny sea snails, steamed spinach, fried fish, kimchi and mixed veggies.. please do correct me if I'm wrong.. it's actually my first time trying kimchi and I loved it.. it was very refreshing and the sourness is still acceptable for my taste buds.. I also love the fried fish, crunchy outside and tender inside and it served hot.. it's very generous of the restaurant to give fish as part of banchan, in my opinion..

our first order is dolsot yachae bibimbab (Rp48,000) which was rice with beef, namul (sautéed, seasoned mixed vegetables) and raw egg yolk served in a hot stone pot.. it's a very popular Korean dish.. it has to be stirred first before eating and the raw egg yolk will eventually be cooked due to the hot stone pot.. I don't know the exact seasoning for this dish, but I found this dish was very delicious.. the beef was tender and the vegetables were just perfectly cooked.. the rice was a bit too mushy for me, but it was not a big problem.. I love it so much..

next to come is yukgaejang (Rp48,000) or spicy beef and scallion soup, also served in a hot stone pot.. it's the best dish of all.. I was totally in love with it.. a thick, spicy broth combined with the tender beef.. it's such a perfect dish for my taste buds.. I even craving for it as I'm writing this review haha.. so believe me, it's addictive..

overall, I think I had a great Korean cuisine experience.. I love all of those food, full of seasoning.. very rich in taste and they truly fit my taste buds..

Pandan Village

On December 17, 2011, I was invited by Pandan Village for "Bloggers' Food Tasting Session".. as always, getting an invitation like this is such a joy to me haha.. I love eating and when it comes to free ones, I just can not resist.. another plus point is I get to meet the other food bloggers.. it's only a two-hour meeting but it's really enjoyable.. I came a little late since it's really hard to find a parking lot in Plaza Indonesia on Saturday night..

upon arrival, I was directly welcome by our host, Jefri Franslay, the Marketing & Communication of PT FG Resto.. such a kind and warm person, really.. Pandan Village name itself actually indicate the incomparable delicacy and comfortableness to the customers with a sincere service coming from the heart.. it was taken from the meaning of pandan leaves, widely known for its benefit and village, inspired the peace and honest atmosphere typical of a rural area.. this restaurant offers a taste of home recipe.. it focused on quality, hygiene, excellent services and homey atmosphere.. well, let's have dinner, shall we?

we were given the menu to order our drinks and here what I've able to capture haha.. first, I pick strawberry juice (Rp25,000) for myself.. it was fresh juice but tasted too sweet for me.. well, as you can probably tell, I'm not a sweet tooth head and I forgot to request for less sugar.. can't blame themsince we have different standard for sweetness level.. other bloggers ordered es merah delima, es jeruk nyiur, es selasih fantasi spesial and es avocado mocha (each Rp25,000).. you can tell that this restaurant offers various kind of Indonesian traditional drinks.. a lot of choices, really..

for our appetizers, we have tahu kipas udang laguna (Rp32,000 per 4 pieces) and risoles (Rp24,000 per 3 pieces).. let me tell you that I'm a big fan of tahu kipas or deep fried stuffed tofu.. and this one is no different.. it was really delicious and appetizing.. the tofu was crunchy outside and the fillings was quite generous.. the risoles was also a nice and welcoming appetizer.. the ragout was perfect with a hint of sweet and vegetables.. I love both appetizers..

next served is salad borneo (Rp38,000).. it was cucumber salad with sweet mayonnaise topped with sweet chicken and served with potato chips.. I'm not a fan of cucumber but I did taste it a bit.. it tasted a little sweet but very refreshing.. I love the chips, by the way..

it may not look like one but it was tahu telor (Rp28,000).. this dish is one of my all-time favorite Indonesian cuisine.. it's fried tofu in egg topped with beansprout and petis sauce.. this one is no exception.. the dish is served warm and I can still taste crunchiness of the egg wrapping the tofu.. the sauce is not overly sweet.. another plus point, lots of crackers :D

our first soup dish was asem-asem iga sari kuring (Rp55,000).. it is said to be one of the best seller of this restaurant and unsurprisingly, tasted really nice.. a small fire pot underneath to ensure that the soup kept warm during our eating time is definitely a good idea.. the ribs were very tender and the soup was tasty.. it was refreshing for me to eat a clear soup dish..

our second soup dish is sop kikil pandan village (Rp45,000).. it was ox feet cooked in beef broth and special herbs soup.. the ox fee was very tender which I truly love about this dish.. the sou was quite clear with a hint of turmeric taste..

next to be served is ayam bumbu rujak (Rp35,000).. it was Javanese style of sauteed chicken with red chili.. it's a bit too sweet for my tongue and I can't find the red chili which was supposed to be there..

sambal goreng tongkol manalagi (Rp45,000) or long-tail tuna cooked in red coconut milk is definitely the star of the night.. it was very tasty and a little bit spicy, which was a perfect taste for my tongue.. eat this with a hot rice and you'll definitely have a happy tummy :)

another choice of fish menu is gureme bakar nusa penida (Rp65,000) which was baked gurame in sweet-spicy sauce.. the sauce was tasty, but unfortunately my table's fish was not too fresh, I supposed.. very unlucky for us :(

next we were served with two types of satay, sate ayam pandan wangi (Rp38,000 per 5 pieces) and sate ayam suroboyo (Rp35,000 per 6 pieces).. the difference between those two menu is sate ayam suroboyo is served with peanut sauce while sate ayam pandan wangi has been seasoned before grilled.. I personally like sate ayam suroboyo better.. what can I say? I love peanut sauce haha..

our kind host didn't allow us go home empty-handed, so he gave us each a FG Resto member card valid for 10% discount in all FG restaurants.. it was really thoughtful of him.. overall, I had a great night.. meeting fellow bloggers and experience new food.. a well-spent Saturday night :)

I'm a sucker for noodles.. I don't know why but I always love noodles.. any kind of it.. you name it, thin noodles, curly noodles, la mian, or even the Italian version of noodle (pasta).. haha.. my neighborhood has developed to a culinary heaven.. really, a lot of new restaurants opened like mushrooms.. one of those many is Bakmie Aloi.. it's a noodle chain restaurant originated from Palembang.. in Jakarta, they have previously opened their branch in Grogol, Kelapa Gading and PIK (CMIIW)..

it was located right next to the famous Bakmie Alok.. I came here to have breakfast with my mom.. it was not too crowded that morning, luckily.. the restaurant layout is very simple yet clean and neat.. looking at their menu, we decided to share a portion of complete noodle (bakmi komplit - Rp24,000).. it consisted of Palembang's thin noodle topped with chicken, minced pork, chasiu pork, mushrooms and celery.. actually, you can choose your noodle between the thin one or the wide one.. our noodle was accompanied with a bowl of chicken broth filled with caisim..

before eating, I usually pour a lot of lime juice and chili sauce.. I'm a chili addict, by the way.. the lime juice was very refreshing.. and the noodle, it was great.. if it's pasta, then I'll call it al dente.. it was chewy and not overcooked.. accompanied with those toppings and I'm happy.. just like that.. it was one delicious plate of noodle.. even by writing those post, I wished I could go there again tomorrow haha..

though the price was quite expensive for a portion of noodle.. I believed that it was worth every Rupiah I spent.. the toppings were generous, the portion was huge and most of all, it was delicious.. I heart you :)

another new place in town.. well, it's been a while but I haven't had the chance to write any review about it.. sorry, been quite busy lately.. it's Monolog Quality Coffee Co... located in Plaza Senayan right in front of De Luca.. this place has such a warm and welcoming ambiance.. dominated in a wooden furniture, this place really spoil me to spend hours there.. it's actually my current favorite hang out place.. the atmosphere was very relaxing and though it was crowded, I always managed to get a table without having to wait..

my first visit was around a month ago.. I remembered it was Saturday and I have to work overtime at office.. I finished working around 9 p.m and my best friend came to pick me up.. we ended up hanging out at this place to boost my ruined mood haha.. since it was quite late, we only order drinks.. I picked hot cappuccino (Rp26,000) while he picked thai iced tea (Rp28,000).. my cappuccino was very cute as it was heart-shaped.. it tasted nice especially after I add the brown sugar.. lately, it became my habit to mix my coffee with brown sugar.. it brought such a unique flavor and I love it.. unfortunately, his thai iced tea was very sweet that he didn't even bother to finish it..

when we placed our orders, we were advised that there's a 50% discount for pastries, since it was above 8 p.m.. of course a 50% discount is too good to be passed.. we ended up add raisin pastry (Rp8,000 after discount) to accompany our talks.. it was warm and crunchy.. a very good deal, really.. its sweetness is just right for my tongue and I really like it..

a week ago, I went back to Monolog with the very same person for another chat.. it's been a tough year for us, apparently haha.. I ordered hot latte (Rp28,000) and it came just as cute as cappuccino.. as usual, I add the brown sugar and it tasted really good.. I like latte better than the cappuccino.. with such a cute appearance, I almost didn't want to stir my drink haha.. overall, I always enjoy my time at Monolog.. the coffee was good, the waiters are very kind and helpful.. the ambiance is the best.. and during my last visit, the alley between Monolog and De Luca is decorated to welcome Christmas which I love so much..

my teammates at office are such a food addict.. we have all the reason just to go out and eat then named it team-meeting haha.. a few weeks ago, a temporary employee who has helped our team for the past three months decided to end her contract.. that's another reason for us to treat her lunch, as a good bye.. it was Pizza Marzano when we finally set our choice.. mostly because they offered a 50% discount for BNI Credit Card holder.. such a great deal.. I love discounts..

clock-wise: Grand Chicken Caesar Salad - Maccheroni Al Forno Alla Bolognese - Fettucinni Con Funghi - Iced Cappucinno

for appetizer, we decided to share Grand Chicken Caesar Salad (Rp67,000) consisted of chicken, anchovies, grana padano, cos lettuce, croutons, Caesar dressing, served with bread sticks.. it tasted good.. I'm such a fan for Caesar salad, so I'm not being objective I supposed.. the dressing was good with a hint of sour.. it was refreshing and a good appetizer for me..

a friend of mine ordered Maccheroni Al Forno Alla Bolognese (Rp65,000).. it was baked macaroni with bechamel sauce, bolognese sauce, mozzarella and grana padano.. it was one of the new menu there and it tasted really good.. I regret that I didn't order that.. the macaroni was al dente, went really well with the bolognese sauce and baked cheese.. I loved it..

I, on the other hand, picked the classical Fettucinni Con Funghi (Rp60,000).. the classic creamy fettucinni with mushrooms.. it was just okay, unfortunately.. I had better.. the pasta was good but the sauce was too creamy that I ended not finishing my whole plate.. sorry :( I also ordered Iced Cappucinno (around Rp20,000, I forgot) for my companion since I remembered that Italians have great coffee.. it was also good, but not special..

off to dessert, we're actually planning to order a piece of tiramisu cake as it was really appetizing.. but unfortunately, they run out of it.. so our choice went to Choco Fudge Cake (Rp40,000).. and it's not disappointing at all.. the cake was moist and tasted bittersweet.. it was served warm and combined with the vanilla ice cream, it was just perfect.. I almost forgot the diet I'm on eating this haha.. such a great way to end your lunch :)

Starbucks Holiday Gathering

I have always been in love with coffee.. one of the best brand coffee I've come to know is Starbucks.. my office mates know just how much I was in love haha.. so when last Tuesday I got an invitation to taste their holiday product, I was much more than excited haha.. so last Wednesday, I went to their newly opened Tomang branch with other food bloggers.. unfortunately, I came a little late due to the wonderful traffic of Jakarta..

once I stepped in the store, it felt like December already.. the Christmas decoration, red and green everywhere, even the baristas wore Christmas ornament.. it's definitely my favorite time of the year.. Starbucks' theme for 2011 Christmas is "Let's gather with good friends".. it's such a great theme, you know, hanging out with your loved ones while sipping hot coffee.. it's my paradise on earth.. off to the food tasting.. yummy..

Holiday Beef and Egg Bagel (Rp30,000).. it's actually onion and cheese bagel filled with smoked beef, scrambled egg, mayonnaise, lettuce and caramelized onion.. I have to say that it's my favorite dish of the night.. it's really delicious.. I have been in love with their onion and cheese bagel before and now, add smoked beef and scrambled egg, I'd definitely say goodbye to diet haha..

Cranberry Scones (Rp22,5000).. scone is actually Scottish bread made from wheat.. Starbucks' cranberry scones combined cranberries and walnut topped with white chocolate coating.. it was delicious, really.. not too sweet, the way I always like with a crunchy texture.. such a great companion for coffee..

Blueberry and Strawberry Cream Cheese Cake (Rp25,000).. to be honest, it's my least favorite dish of the night.. it actually looked very cute, with purple and pinky appearance.. it's sweet butter cake filled with cream cheese mouse and blueberry/strawberry topped with whipped cream and blueberry/strawberry sauce.. the cream cheese was okay, but too creamy.. while tasting, I don't know why but I just kept counting the calories of this small cute dish and I'm actually scared haha..

Raspberry Temptation (Rp28,000).. my favorite dessert of the night.. vanilla sponge cake covered with raspberry jelly and cheese butter cream topped with raspberry jam and white chocolate drizzle.. too much calories but too good to resist.. it tasted sour-sweet with a nice taste of raspberry.. I would recommend this cake to everyone.. and I want one more now..

toffee nut latte frappucinno - hot cranberry white chocolate mocha

Starbucks is not Starbucks without their coffee.. for the holiday season, the famous Toffee Nut Latte and Peppermint Mocha are back.. I picked toffee nut latte frappucinno which tasted really nice.. rich toffee taste combined with toasted nuts and Starbucks' espresso.. a nice way to enjoy life.. on 2011 holiday season, Starbucks introduced a new holiday drink called cranberry white chocolate mocha served hot.. it's the BEST beverage I've tasted in Starbucks.. it's the famous Starbucks' espresso combine with white chocolate, cranberry drizzle and cranberry sugar sprinkle.. I can't wait to have some more.. thank you for bringing this beverage to me..

of course we are not allowed to go home empty handed, so a goody bag was available for each of us.. it's filled with Starbucks Christmas Blend, a jar of Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies and a voucher to have a tall Starbucks drink.. I got to say that the Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies was very delicious.. it's crunchy, not too sweet.. it has definitely become my favorite cookies ever.. even my mom loved it so much.. thank you, Starbucks Indonesia for having me.. love you :)

I bet it's one of the hippest place for Jakarta's young adults to hang out.. apparently I'm one of those crowd haha.. De Luca is one of the newest Italian restaurant opened in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta.. it's been a while actually since my last visit to Plaza Senayan.. it used to be the hippest mall but once lost its charm, and now it has re-reign as the most crowded mall in Jakarta.. we, Jakarta people, love malls haha..

I've been really busy at work and I really need some rest, so on one Saturday, a friend and I went to Plaza Senayan to have some talks and updates.. we intended to eat at Union, but it was just too full, so we headed to De Luca, found it not crowded and decided to have our lunch there.. the restaurant was very nicely decorated that I would spend hours without getting bored haha.. I love their wooden furniture and dim light.. it just made the atmosphere really warm :)

the menu was quite extensive.. they offered various Italian dishes which made me a little confused picking what to eat haha.. the menu is dominated with pasta dishes and some entree, pizza and a very little spot left for desserts.. the pasta section were divided into three categories, creamy sauce pasta, tomato sauce pasta and aglio olio pasta.. oh, the best thing about Italian restaurants is the free bread haha.. De Luca presented us with a small basket of fresh bread which was warm and delicious.. such a good compliment to start our lunch..

for drinks, I picked hot coffee latte (Rp32,000) while my friend picked iced lychee tea (Rp35,000).. the coffee was good and presented very cute with a heart-shaped foam on top.. I love the cup so much I wished I could bring it home.. I didn't try his tea but I heard that it was also good..

it didn't take a long time for our lunch to arrived.. mine was farfalle with beef bacon & mushroom (Rp68,000) while his was spinach cannelonni (Rp68,000).. first, farfalle was a bow tie shaped pasta.. second, my farfalle was al dente.. complimented nicely with the creamy sauce, topped with beef bacons, mushrooms and cheese.. suddenly, the world is a better place haha.. seriously, it was really delicious.. the cream sauce was just right.. I mean, it was creamy but not the type which avoid you to finish your dish..

my friend's cannelonni was also great.. it came in a huge portion, a rolled pasta filled with spinach and minced beef topped with melted cheese and dressed with tomato sauce.. are you drooling? haha.. I did try a bite of it and I loved it.. I'm kinda weak for Italian dishes haha..

overall, De Luca, in my opinion, offers a great ambiance to hang out and have small talks with your close friends along with great food.. a little pricey, I guess, but I think I have to say that it was worth every Rupiah spent.. there's actually one thing that bothers me about the service.. as we were eating and talking, we spend quite a while to finish our meal.. and right when there's a bite of cannelonni left on my friend's plate, a waitress came and asked whether she can clean up the plates.. we were quite confused and directly said that he had not finished his meal.. it was quite annoying but forgiven thanks to the good food..

My Kopi-O!

a few weeks ago, my mom and I decided to go somewhere new, since we were quite bored with the existing malls haha.. the decision was to visit the new Living World mall in Alam Sutera area and I was determined to try My Kopi-O! due to the reviews I've read on other food blogs.. the mall itself was quite big and mostly was filled with restaurants haha.. first, we went around the mall for window shopping and ended up having our coffee time at My Kopi-O! as I insisted haha..

the appearance of this coffee shop was very nice.. the restaurant was divided into two section, the inner part of the restaurant, decorated in a rather modern style with walls filled with bottles of all shapes and colors; and the outer part, decorated in gardeny style with wooden furniture.. we decided to sit at the garden part so we can see the people walking around haha..

the menu was very cute that I loved it so much.. it was made in a newspaper style separated between food and beverages menu.. at this point, I got the impression that this restaurant really pays attention to details and I just love it.. the decoration, menu and the hospitality of the waiters are the best first impression I can get from a restaurant..

my mom and I decided to try their Nanyang Kopi Tarik (Rp18,800) as it was our coffee time.. it came in a very cute cup with a piece of crispy toasted butter bread.. as my mom was my coffee expert, I'll put her opinion in this review.. she said that the coffee was very nice, and smelled really good.. I personally also like it but thought it came in a really small cup haha.. even the butter bread was also nice.. a good way to refresh my late afternoon..

for our snack, we decided to try Shanghai Combi Burger (Rp39,800) to share.. it was presented on a wooden chop-board and a piece of banana leave.. it consisted of four shanghai half buns filled with different types of toppings, which was spicy chicken, beef sausage, black pepper beef and I think the last one was chicken ragoût patty, though I'm not sure haha.. in my opinion, all of those topping and the bun was just delicious.. well, if you ask my favorite, it would be the last chicken ragoût patty.. the buns was very fluffy and tender.. I don't think I've ever tasted this kind of bun before..

one minus point of this restaurant was our snacks took like forever to arrive at our table.. my mom's coffee was almost empty when it finally arrived.. so, we decided to try their cold beverage and picked Passion Fruit Mojito (Rp34,800).. fortunately, this drink was very good and refreshing.. passion fruit essence combined with soda drinks and lime juice plus mint leaves.. it topped the best cold beverage I have ever tasted.. am I overrating it? perhaps, but I was totally in love and a lover just couldn't be 100% objective haha..

overall, I love this place and can't wait to come back.. but it was just too far.. I really wish it would open a new branch somewhere near my house.. *finger crossed*

it was Sunday morning, I had planned to meet an old friend to have breakfast together.. she is currently working in Singapore, and only spent a weekend in Jakarta.. luckily, between our packed schedule (I had to work during that weekend), we managed to sneak a breakfast meeting.. like I've always said, meeting an old friend is like a vitamins in life.. they brought stories and joy to be shared with you.. I remember laughing the whole time during our brunch..

it has actually become sort of a habit every time she visits Jakarta.. especially when it was just over the weekend, we will meet for brekfast or brunch.. as our houses were quite close, we usually picked somewhere near.. unfortunately, the options were very limited that we almost always ended up eating in Bakmi Alok.. this time, we kinda hoped to find some place new and thanks God, we found Billie Chick, which was opened from 8.30 in the morning.. she even gave me a high-five for finally found a new place haha..

actually, Bille Chick has opened for quite a while, but I haven't got the chance to visit.. I heard that they served delicious food.. the waiter told us that the food was not ready until 9.00 a.m so we ordered our drinks first and both of us needed coffee haha.. Hot Cappuccinno (Rp21,900) and Hot French Vanilla Latte (Rp21,900) were our choices.. the cappucinno tasted just okay for me.. but it was a good way to start the day.. I didn't try the vanilla latte, but my friend finished it til the last drop, so I supposed it was also good.. the presentation is very cute :)

for the breakfast, I picked Cheese Meat Fries (Rp17,900), she picked French Soup (Rp18,500) and we added Grilled Chicken Salad (Rp19,900) to share.. the soup was awesome, it was really delicious.. I loved it, but I thought I wouldn't be able to finish as it was very thick.. my fries was lovely.. french fries topped with bolognaisse meat sauce and melted cheese, all the fat in one bowl haha.. it was delicious and very yummy.. our salad came in a very appetizing look, and tasted as good as it looked.. the dressing was a bit sweet, I think they add a little Asian taste to it.. it was good and refreshing :)

overall, it was a good meal, a cozy place and a really nice friend.. such a perfect way to start a day.. wish I could do it everyday :)

after seeing their bright signboard for quite a while, finally I got the chance to try Areli Coffee House.. it's weekday night, bf and I were looking for a nice place to have a light dinner and talk.. the place was not crowded when we arrived, only one table was occupied.. unluckily, the only table occupied was filled with around ten young adults, who happened to talk and laugh loudly.. it kinda ruins the coziness the place offered..

the place was not too big, but very welcoming.. covered in wood wall, floor and ceiling, accompanied with wooden furniture and rather dimmed light, it gave a warm and welcoming feeling.. I fell in love instantly.. looking at the menu, it was dominated with drinks, with only a few choices of food.. fortunately, we were not too hungry..

I decided to have hot latte - regular (Rp22,000) since it was a coffee shop after all, so I thought I must try their coffee.. bf picked avocado mix (Rp18,000) based on my influence haha.. it didn't take too long for our drinks to arrive.. his avocado mix tasted nice, a mixture of avocado juice, chocolate milk and coffee.. it's not overly sweet and was a perfect combination for my tongue.. my latte arrived in a very cute appearance.. apparently, the barista made some art for my latte.. I loved it.. though the latte tasted just okay, it successfully made me happy haha.. I'm such an easy girl on cute stuffs..

for dinner, bf picked mie kangkung goreng terasi (Rp22,000).. it came in a small portion, to his disappointment, but very appealing.. stir-fried thick noodle, mixed with water spinach, scrambled egg and shrimps.. yummy.. it tasted really good, that I kept on taking his meal haha.. the spiciness level was enough and I really liked it..

I did not order any meal for me, since I was trying to skip dinner.. however, looking at their cake selection, I just could not resist.. so I gave up.. see, how unfaithful and inconsistent person I am when it's related to cakes haha.. looking at their best selling menu, we decided to try their oreo Mille crêpe (Rp28,000) as suggested by the waiter.. Mille crêpe is French cake made from many crepe layers.. as you can see, it was very appetizing.. and it tasted just as good as it looked.. I loved it so much.. the crepes were soft, filled with cream and chocolate in between layers, made me just can't stop eating.. another plus point was it's not overly sweet.. it was just great..

overall, Areli Coffee House offers a warm and cozy ambiance to hang out and have small talks.. good coffee, great food and wonderful dessert were just too good to be passed..

a few weeks ago, I visited Gandaria City for a Saturday date with bf.. after a tiring walk around the huge mall, we decided to give our feet some rest and there we spotted Ya Kun Kaya Toast.. it was located in rather secluded area of the mall and lucky for us, it was not full.. first, we placed our orders at the cashier includes yuanyang ping (Rp13,437) for me, milo ping (Rp18,637) for him and a portion of traditional kaya toast (Rp13,638) to be shared..

I always love their traditional kaya toast.. their toast was very crunchy.. why? I wondered.. then I found that the toast was not made from white bread, but brown bread which was toasted over real charcoal fire until crisp.. now that's really something or sesuatu banget yaa.. haha.. the kaya was not overly sweet, which I really like.. it tasted perfect combined with the butter.. it's truly a perfect combination for my tongue..

my favorite drink here would be yuanyang ping.. it was a mix of coffee and milk tea, originated from Hong Kong.. how to describe its taste ya? it tasted like mixture of coffee, milk and tea.. haha.. bottom line is it was delicious and tasty.. I mean, you can have all the three basic drinks in one glass.. I didn't try bf's drink, but I believe iced chocolate milk can never go wrong :)

Depot 3.6.9 (San Liu Jiu) is specializing in Shanghai cuisine, mostly serves dumplings and noodle.. it is said that this culinary heritage was brought from a famous and busy road in ancient Shanghai, called NanJing Lu.. for more than 51 years, Depot 3.6.9 has claimed that they maintained the same recipe and quality to ensure customers get the best of Shanghai cuisine..

a few weeks ago, bf and I picked their Kedoya branch for lunch.. it was located in a small house/office (rukan) near Food Hall supermarket.. its location is quite secluded but not too hard to find.. it was lunch time when we arrived and a few tables were occupied.. as we went through their menu, we decided to go for a portion of noodle and a shared appetizer.. the noodles served is available in four options, between yellow noodle (made from egg yolk), white noodle (made from egg white, low cholesterol), green noodle (made from vegetables) or vermicelli..

fortune dumpling (Rp33,637) is our choice for appetizer though it came the last.. consisting of each two pieces of xiao long bao, guo tie, jiao zi and fried pao, it was a perfect choice to try all their special dumplings.. we chose pork over chicken for the fillings.. the xiao long bao is definitely the best.. I love the hot broth inside the thin skin then combined with steamed pork.. I'm drooling all over my keyboard now haha.. I also like their jiao zi and guo tie but the fried pao was not my favorite.. from the start I just don't get the idea of frying pao so basically it just didn't fit my taste preference..

my bf picked mie kourou (Rp31,819) since he is such a huge pork fan with the yellow noodle.. kourou is steamed pork belly, it's a very famous dish from China.. you can see the pork fat layers in the picture.. that's his favorite! I tasted a bit and loved the kourou, though I didn't try the fat.. the meat was tender, juicy and well-seasoned.. a bite is never enough.. the yellow noodle was a bit too dry for me..

song mie (Rp26,364) with green noodle was my choice.. it was topped with shrimps, chicken chunks and mushrooms.. it was love at first bite since it was delicious.. the green noodle was not dry like the yellow ones, which I like.. though the toppings were not too much, they're well-seasoned and tasted perfect.. I love it so much and I want it more.. haha..

overall, in my opinion, Depot 3.6.9 has a great thing to offer.. delicious food with reasonable price.. I love it a lot:)

Panecook is not just another pancake restaurant.. the restaurant has specified themselves in Dutch style of pancake, or called pannekoek, which is usually much thinner than American pancakes.. here, pannekoek is served both as main course and as desserts.. the restaurant is located in office/house (rukan) in Puri Indah area.. it was decorated in simple furniture, quite suitable for an light chat with friends and family..

I went here with a friend looking for a place to share thoughts and having light desserts.. it was not too crowded when we arrived, so we directly got our table.. we picked hot tea (Rp8,000) each since it was a cold night and shared a portion of tiramisu pannekoek (Rp39,000).. tiramisu pannekoek consisted of three layers of pannekoek served with Mascarpone cream, chocolate sauce, kahlua and a scoop of mocha ice cream..

it surely looked appetizing, right? the pannekoek was fluffy.. I loved it.. in my opinion, this is better than the thick American pancakes.. underneath one layer of pannekoek is Mascarpone cream mixed with kahlua.. giving a light taste of bitterness which balance the sweet chocolate sauce and mocha ice cream.. it's a joyous meal for my tongue.. I'm instantly in love haha.. I definitely will come back for more pannekoek..

people talk over food and drinks.. I don't exactly know why, but sitting around a small round table is a great way to share stories.. at least, that's my case.. meeting my old friends means a combination of food, coffee, ice cream, desserts and lots of talks haha.. after having our lunch and walking around the mall, we decided to treat ourselves some sweets.. it was late afternoon and we wanted something light and sweet.. I forgot how we ended up in de' Excelso, but there we were.. it was packed with people and we have to wait around 10 minutes before we got our table..

I picked tiramisu frappio (Rp41,500) as my drink since it was marked 'recommended' in the menu.. it was a combination of coffee, a little tiramisu taste and kahlua.. when it arrived at our table, I thought its color was too pale.. it's almost white! it smelled really nice, though.. to my disappointment, it tasted almost bland.. not enough coffee, not sweet enough and too much ice blended.. I actually hate it.. well, perhaps it was because they were so busy and orders were kept coming.. but it's just disappointing..

to accompany our coffee time, the five of us shared a portion of banana wrap (Rp30,000).. in was pictured in the menu with a scoop of ice cream and I just found out that originally, this dish didn't come with the ice cream.. you need to pay extra for that ice cream.. I would suggest de' Excelso to revise their menu.. the fried banana was small, covered in cheese and choco slices.. it tasted just okay for a price of Rp30,000..

overall, I am quite disappointed with this place.. it was located strategically in front of Grand Indonesia's dancing fountain, that's why it was so packed.. I believe that they should improve their quality control to ensure every guest get the best of their orders.. lucky for us, we got a 50% discount by paying with Mandiri Credit Card.. I guessed I'm not coming back anytime soon..

meeting old friends is definitely on top of my favorite things to do.. but sometimes it's hard to find the perfect timing to meet all of your group.. my college friends is one of the best example.. trust me, it's really hard to gather two auditors, one consultant, one accountant and one bank officer together.. haha.. that's us :D

well, thanks God, we finally were able to schedule our meeting during Lebaran holiday in Grand Indonesia.. the biggest problem we always have since college was deciding where to eat haha.. as we went through each option available, we noted The Manhattan Fish Market.. after peeking at the menu and got ourselves interested, we decided to try..

the restaurant was not too big, but quite cozy.. I think it was quite suitable for family dinner.. it just gave me warm feeling for I don't know what reason.. some of the wall were covered with bricks and some other were covered with New York landscape picture.. the restaurant was not full as we arrived and we got our table right away..

I noted that this restaurant pay attention to details.. for instance, one of the picture hanged was written "Off-fish-ially the best seafood in town" or in the back of waiter's uniform was written "Sea-cret Agent".. I found it really cute.. on the tissue available on our table, they printed the restaurant logo with a question underneath while the answer is available at the back of it.. mine was saying "why are sardines the silliest fish in the sea?" "because they climb into tins, close the lid, leave the key outside".. little things like this successfully made me smile..

off to the food.. we were very hungry and wanted to try every menu we found.. however, remembering our stomach size (and our diet *cough*), we decided to share our food.. we ordered Manhattan Seafood Platter for Two (Rp179,000), Regular Manhattan Fish 'n Chips - Pacific Dory (Rp51,000) and Regular Mixed Seafood Pasta (Rp69,000).. for drinks, we pick the bottomless flavored tea (Rp22,000), available with choices of blackcurrant tea or lemon tea..

our seafood platter consisted of deep fried fish fillet, fried calamari, Manhattan Flaming Prawns served with chips, garlic herb rice and chef's green.. the flaming prawns were directly grilled right before it was served to our table which wowed us.. compare to their competitor, the price was cheaper, but the serving size was also smaller.. there were only four prawns and four mussels, while we were five hungry girls..

the verdict.. the herb rice was very nice.. it tasted so good even without any seafood, but it's a bit too sweet for my tongue though I still like it.. the calamari was crunchy and tender.. the fish and fries were just okay.. the prawns were delicious but its sauce was a bit too creamy.. the mussels was fishy and I don't like it at all.. the portion of greens were too small and the carrots were raw.. oh, come on, it wouldn't hurt to give us more greens and to cook the carrots correctly.. the best of this dish would be their herb rice..

the so-called of-fish-ially the best fish 'n chips in town in the menu.. it is available for choices of pacific dory, pacific cod or sword fish with different price.. I would say that there's nothing really special about this.. just another fish 'n chips in town.. the portion was quite big and the price was still reasonable.. I won't complain and I won't praise either..

for our pasta, we picked spaghetti, served with marinara sauce combined with mussels, shrimps and calamari.. the marinara sauce is a bit too sweet for my tongue.. the portion was very small and the fillings was not generous remembering the price charged.. I didn't try the mussels and prawns here but the calamari was delicious and tender.. to be honest, it's not my favorite.. I have tasted much better marinara sauce..

overall, it's a restaurant with a very nice ambiance, but average food in my opinion.. the price is reasonable and I won't complain about the service.. other than that, it's just another seafood restaurant for me..

Lomie Kangkung Cucu Pinangsia

it was one of the oldest restaurant I have ever known around my neighborhood.. it is said that they had opened their restaurant since 1945.. the restaurant itself is called Lomie Kangkung Cucu Pinangsia.. the noodle used here is yellow noodle than poured with thick brown sauce.. I don't really know about the history behind Lomie Kangkung Pinangsia as it is quite different than any other lomie I've known.. oh well, though I don't know much about the history, I'm quite thankful to know their food.. here's how it looked..

introducing, Lomie Kangkung Special (Rp26,000).. well, it doesn't look that appetizing ya? haha.. underneath those thick brown sauce was yellow noodles mixed with water spinach then topped with grilled pork.. and it came in a huge portion.. adding a little lime juice and chili before stirring would make it even better.. the thick brown sauce tasted dominantly sweet but not too overpowering.. for me, adding the lime juice balanced the sauce sweetness.. it is very savory and goes really well with the noodle and water spinach that I like it so much.. adding pickles is another option to balance the sauce sweetness, like my mom always does.. the noodle is chewy, not mushy.. the best part of this dish is the grilled pork.. it was crunchy outside and tender inside, just the way I liked it..

it's how they looked in half portion (I shared a portion with mom).. see those peeking water spinach and grilled pork? yum yum.. I supposed we have a complete dish here.. you have carbohydrate, greens and meat.. all in one plate.. :)

it was Saturday afternoon.. a hot one I must say.. two young adult were walking around Tebet Utara street, stopping by in each shop found.. that's me and bf haha.. in the middle of the street full with distro, we noted a sign of dessert.. it was like finding an oasis in the middle of desert.. I was really tired walking around and really thirsty and lucky for us, we were given an offer we just could not say no..

it was Cafe Du Chocolat.. located in second floor of Noin Brand distro, it was quite catchy.. during August 2011, they offer a variety of menu for only Rp10,000 each from 2-6 p.m during weekday and from 3-6 p.m during weekends.. interesting, right? hahaha..

as we entered the cafe, it was nearly empty.. there was only one table occupied and soon to be empty once we were seated.. the furniture was kinda confusing since I don't get the connection of each stuff.. the sofa was worn out.. I think their furniture was quite old? I don't know.. it just gave me bad feeling.. I'm afraid we picked the wrong place to sit haha.. I did note a nice quote written on their wall which I love..

looking at the menu, we decided to try their Rp10,000 promotion.. remembering the shopping bags we had in our hands, we must tight our budget in eating haha.. I picked sour apple, bf picked milky fanta and we had grilled banana as our snacks.. all of it was Rp10,000 each, tax and services were included.. yay to cheap snacks :)

my sour apple was basically apple juice topped with chopped fresh apples.. to my surprise it was really good and refreshing.. or maybe I was too thirsty to be able to judge objectively.. anyhow, I loved it so much.. I may even try to make it at home by myself if I have time haha.. such a lazy girl.. bf's milky fanta was the western style of soda susu gembira.. it was thick milk under strawberry soda.. too sweet for me, but his favourite..

lastly to come was our grilled banana.. it was a banana (cut half) then grilled and topped with chocolate milk, choco sprinkles and cheese with a fresh strawberry.. again, to my surprise, it was very delicious.. the banana was nicely grilled, it was soft and not mushy.. the toppings, though seemed overwhelming, did not overpower the banana instead completes the whole meal and made me a fan haha..

I supposed we should not judge the book by its cover ya? I never thought I would fall in love with this place, but I did.. I will definitely come back to try other desserts.. I heard their fondue was a favorite..

as the Lebaran holiday is here and Jakarta shows its most beautiful side of the year.. streets are almost empty, a heaven for particularly me who usually spent nearly one and half hours to office and another one and half hours back from office.. wish the holiday last longer :D

so, last Saturday, due to work requirements, I must go to office, preparing some month-end data for our business units (sigh).. it was around 12 a.m when I finished my overtime.. actually bf and I had planned to go to Grand Indonesia, but seeing the empty streets, I was tempted to go somewhere unusual for us.. so we picked Tebet area haha..

looking for lunch there is not a big deal.. there are restaurants on every street corner.. I have heard of Bebek Kaleyo for quite a while.. it was famous for their crispy duck.. I was so willing to try their duck, and lucky for us the restaurant was not full when we arrived.. I remember when I went to Tebet a few months ago, the restaurant was very packed and full with parked cars..

the restaurant was actually quite big.. it was dominated in wooden furniture and was an open-aired restaurant.. they have a small room with air-conditioner in front of the restaurant.. it was one hot afternoon so we decided to sit in the air-conditioned area.. the menu was not too various.. they mainly served duck in three ways of cooking (grilled, fried or deep in green chili).. you can choose between regular duck (a quarter duck per portion) or young duck (a half duck per portion).. it is said that the young duck's meat was more tender with a Rp2,000 different, I picked the young duck..

I intended to order grilled young duck, but the waiter said it was sold out.. so, we decided to order a portion of Bebek Muda Cabe Ijo (Rp18,000) and Nasi Uduk (Rp4,000) each.. the duck came in a huge portion (half of a duck was served in my plate) with green chili all over it! I really love the duck's texture.. it was was very crispy in the outside yet very tender inside.. the green chili was just okay, not too spicy actually but quite scary haha.. the duck was deep fried and it left some oil underneath which ruins my rice.. I hate rice mixed with oil! I should have asked for separation between duck and rice.. at least I learn my mistake..

overall.. besides the oil accident, I love their duck so much.. with a very reasonable and affordable price, no wonder people kept coming :) a good business it is for Bebek Kaleyo..

MOF Japanese Sweets & Coffee

since I have tried MOF @ My Izakaya at Singapore, I have always been craving to try their branch in Plaza Indonesia.. so one Saturday, bf and I decided to give it a try.. what I don't know was that there was a big different between their Izakaya concept and cafe concept, including the menu.. so I was quite disappointed when I take a look at their menu.. luckily we got ourselves a 50% discount voucher from Dealkeren :) no matter how bad the situation is, discounts always make the world a lot better haha..

MOF Japanese Sweets & Coffee is how they named their branch located in a secluded area in Plaza Indonesia.. we have to go around the second floor twice before we finally found the restaurant haha.. anyway, I love their sofa.. it's cozy and colorful.. want to take them home, please.. the restaurant was not too large, dominated by orange and a touch of bright colors here and there.. it was quite comfortable, actually.. we decided to sit in the corner, near their kitchen..

it was lunch, so we need to have something not light to satisfy our tummy.. for drinks, I picked Hot Cappucinno (Rp25,000) since I'm such a big fan of coffee.. I'm too obvious right? bf picked Iced Maccha with Caramel (Rp28,000) since green tea is one of the specials there.. my hot cappucinno came in a tray and a piece of biscuit.. for me, the coffee was nice and it actually boost my mood.. bf's iced macca was green, obviously, topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce.. the green tea was not sweet, to our surprise.. so he, as a sweet lover, asked for sugar to be added..

for appetizer, we picked Caesar Salad (Rp45,000).. I'm a big fan of caesar salad since the dressing was so much refreshing.. our salad consisted of romaine lettuce and boiled eggs topped with chopped toast and cheese.. for me, this dish was just okay.. the caesar dressing has been improved to be more Japanese.. I mean it tasted a bit different than the usual caesar dressing I've known.. it's not bad, it's just.. different haha..

bf's pick was Grilled Short Ribs (Rp65,000).. of course, I tasted it a bit haha.. it came in a lot smaller portion than we had expected.. off to the taste.. actually I didn't like it at all.. the ribs tasted quite weird for me.. such a disappointment for my high expectation.. luckily, bf liked it.. he kept on eating until the plate is empty haha.. our taste-buds are different, I guessed.. I love their french fries though.. they were fat and crunchy outside.. I kept on stealing his fries haha..

actually I intended to order only their salad and some dessert, perhaps.. but my tummy won't compromise.. after I went through their menu, I decided to pick Chicken Katsu Curry Bento (Rp50,000).. I also picked curry when I visited their Singapore branch.. well, I am a Japanese curry lover, and Indian curry hater haha.. it's the cardamom that I hate from Indian curry.. too savory for my tongue.. my Chicken Katsu Curry Bento came in a bento box, consisted of rice, salad and the main star.. chicken katsu, boiled potatoes and carrot drenched in curry sauce.. I love their curry so much..

overall, I think I had put too high expectation about MOF Cafe that made me rather disappointed to find that it offers a different concept from My Izakaya.. I think I will come back for their desserts and maccha drinks, not for their food..

my parents are food lover.. I think that explains the reason of my love for food haha.. since they were still dating, which was around like 30 years ago, they used to go to this small restaurant serving Chinese food, specifically from Teochew area.. in Indonesian terms, the term Teochew was translated to Tio Ciu, similar pronunciation, only different in spelling (CMIIW).. so after they got married and have two lovely children, the four of us became regular visitors.. even after my dad became sick, we still spent some of our Sunday lunch there..

the restaurant itself was named Tio Ciu 78, located in Mangga Besar area.. a few years ago, the restaurant had no air conditioner, rather dirty since there were lots of used tissues and thrown-away garbage on the floor, but somehow still very crowded during dining time.. now, it has evolved itself with new flooring, air conditioner and much cleaner place which makes us more comfortable while dining.. my mom still recognized the chef, whom she knew since he was still very young.. such a place full with memories for our family, indeed..

to be honest, our menu had not changed much since I remembered.. it's the same old menu that my father introduced to us.. as for me, I can have diet and prevent myself from eating too much rice, but here, I just lost all control haha.. all the food are my favorite..

for our appetizer, we always picked Ngo Hiang.. it's made from minced pork meat rolled in a bean-curd skin, then deep-fried, which made the bean-curd skin very crunchy.. this dish is accompanied by sweet sauce, which I had no idea of the ingredients.. it's just really delicious and appetizing.. like welcoming you to a whole different cuisine experience.. sluuurrppp...

this dish is kinda hard for me to explain.. I always called it Bun Perut Ikan (fish belly in Teochew style).. the fish belly was stir-fried along with shrimp, fish balls and pork meat.. the sauce is quite similar to cap cay sauce.. I think this one is my favorite above all.. even when my rice was finished, I just kept putting another spoon of it to my mouth haha..

next came Udang Cuan Cio (shrimp in Cuan Cio sauce).. to be honest, I don't even know what is cuan cio sauce.. but it tasted very savory and perfect.. shrimps cooked with sliced onions and red chili then stir-fry with the sauces.. I'm drooling and starting to feel hungry just by looking at the picture..

lastly we had Tumis Kangkung (stir-fried water spinach).. what makes it special is the red tauco used.. the water spinach was fresh and perfect, not overcooked.. so it was a bit crunchy when I ate it.. the accompanying sauce was just amazing.. I love every bit of it..

see? I love all the dishes.. I'm sorry for the lack of knowledge regarding teochew cuisine that I'm unable to explain further about those dishes.. bottom line, dishes shown above are all perfect for me, fitted my tongue and taste buds.. all of the menus above plus four portions of plain rice and four glasses of iced tea was priced Rp181,000.. sorry, no details per menu since the owner just looked at our orders then calculate the total bill in his calculator, mentioned to us the total price and we paid.. it's a old-fashioned Chinese family restaurant, afterall :)

hellow there.. it's been a while since my last post.. been very busy in the office and working on some other stuffs.. and actually, haven't really visited any restaurant worth reviewing haha..

anyway, my brother is in town for 2 weeks and when he's here means 'welcome fat and good bye diet' haha.. he asked me for a good place to eat and this Hakata Ikkousha just popped in my mind.. I supposed it's the most mentioned ramen-selling restaurant in Indonesian food blogs lately haha..

so yesterday, I went there with my brother and mom for lunch and arrived around 12.30 in the afternoon.. we didn't know the exact location but it was not too hard to find especially after I knew their Indonesian name Rumah Bahagia Pertama.. I wondered whether it was the Indonesian translation.. we waited for 10 minutes before we finally got our table.. the restaurant was very crowded despite it was a lunch during weekday.. I, somehow, enjoyed the hustle of the chatting customers and busy-serving waiters haha..

the restaurant itself was not too big and spacious.. it was dominated in wooden furniture with a touch of Japanese stuff here and there.. makes me feel like I'm in Tokyo (oh dear God, please hear my prayers).. I supposed this resembles the parent restaurant in Japan? I don't know, but I will know once I visited Japan myself (that's faith haha).. the distance between tables was very near, making us can hear our neighbor's conversation.. over the hustle, we sometimes heard Japanese talking fluently in bahasa, welcoming the customers.. perhaps the restaurant is actually run by Japanese.. on our table, there was a basket of all kinds of sauces, chopsticks, tissue and a bowl full of garlic.. well, I'm not a fan of garlic, but I've read reviews saying that putting garlic into your ramen is a good idea.. so we're all set to have our lunch..

I heard that their signature dish was the Special Chicken Ramen and Special Pork Ramen (Rp38,000 each).. since I have to pick one menu only (remembering the size of my tummy), it's obvious that I picked Special Pork Ramen to share with my mom.. I'm such a pork fans hahaha.. it came in a not-so big but full bowl.. filled with ramen, soft-boiled egg and a pork slice.. the broth was very thick.. it is said that the thick broth was obtained from boiling chicken bones, vegetables and fish meat for hours.. it was very tasty and delicious, though my brother said it was too thick.. I loved it, especially once I add a little garlic (just a little) and sliced chili.. my best way was to eat the ramen with the broth and sliced chili :)

my brother picked Tamtam Pork Ramen (Rp46,000) which looked very spicy and appetizing in the menu.. when it came, it looked just like my pork ramen only with chili oil on top of it.. the broth tasted just like mine, and I don't taste any spiciness in it.. maybe I set my expectation too high for this one, and it just didn't surprise me.. I even liked my ramen better than this..

oh, here's a peek of their ramen.. it's thin and smooth..

we also ordered their Pork and Shrimp Gyoza (Rp35,000) to share.. it consisted of five pieces and freshly made upon orders.. it tasted delicious but too oily for me.. the skin was crunchy and the fillings was juicy.. for drinks we had Cold Ocha (Rp8,800) and it was refillable.. the price stated above excludes tax (10%) and service charge (2.5%)..

overall, the three of us had different opinion regarding this restaurant.. I think it was delicious and worth another visit.. my brother said he had tasted better ramen in Singapore.. my mother said it was pricey though she didn't pay the bill.. well, I think I will make another visit, just to confirm who made the best opinion haha..

weekend date with boyfriend to Plaza Indonesia.. yayy!! it's been a while since we had our last date, blame it to Central Bank who regulates banks to submit the monthly report on 5th the following month *curcol* haha..

okay, sorry for that.. that week (it's been a while), Fish & Co. had a promotion with Mega Credit Card for a 50% discount on food with minimum payment of Rp200,000.. we're just human and can't resist the power of discount haha.. so we went there for lunch.. quite bored with fish & chips menu.. we decided to pick Seafood Platter for 2 (Rp235,000++).. here's how it looked..

the platter consisted of seasonal fish (I guessed it was grilled dory fish), calamari, black tiger prawns & mussels in creamy garlic & lemon butter sauce served with french fries and butter rice.. the portion was huge.. I think it was enough for 3-4 girls haha..

I love the calamari best since they were crunchy and perfectly matched the garlic and lemon butter sauce.. it was my first time trying Fish & Co.'s butter rice and I like it so much.. it had nice texture and unique taste, which just made me kept digging for more and forget about diet at all.. other menu were just okay for me.. they're not too special, though they were above average.. I think it's a good choice other than their signature fish & chips.. again, me want another spoon of butter rice, please..

a few weeks ago, I had the chance to meet old high school friends after work.. it's a nice way to boost my mood after a full day of work..I always love meeting my high school friends.. we have so much to share and joke around.. it's quite amazing that we can still meet regularly to have some dinner or just hanging out together to keep updated about each other..

a friend of mine suggested us to try Steak Hotel by Holycow in Senopati area, right behind the SCBD in Sudirman.. it was one famous steak in Jakarta, I bet.. their Radio Dalam branch was so crowded that I don't even want to try haha.. so anyway, after finishing my daily job, I managed to sneak out of the office at 5.30 p.m sharp, wait to be picked up by my friend then directly went for dinner hahaha.. some of my friends had arrived earlier and told us that we're on waiting list.. no wonder, it was around 7 p.m when we arrived..

after waiting a while, we managed to get our seats.. there's a policy in the restaurant that they don't accept any reservations and guests should share their table with others.. there were eight of us.. first, we only got one table enough for 5 persons, so girls were seated first.. lucky for us, we finally managed to get one full table, after asking our neighbor to switch table haha..

the restaurant is not too big but very crowded.. minimalist furniture.. but lots of customers.. first, I ordered Iced Blackcurrant Tea (Rp13,500 - free refill) for my drinks.. I was not too hungry and didn't feel like eating steak, so my friend suggested Bergyu (Rp30,000) or Burger Wagyu..

I picked my Bergyu well-done with black pepper sauce served with french fries.. it came in a surprisingly huge portion, remembering the price.. here comes the first bite of the patty only.. it's my first time eating the so-called wagyu beef and I am such an amateur in the meaty world so I don't even know the level of that wagyu, but that wagyu I ate was really delicious.. it's very tender and soft.. a weird word to describe beef haha.. I'm telling you that I loved it.. loved it so much that I decided to order another one for my mom at home haha.. now I know why people can pay so high for a piece of that meat.. I wonder how the expensive wagyu would taste, I bet it's highly delicious haha.. but I'm quite satisfied with this one, the meat was just perfect and fits my tongue really well.. the black pepper sauce and french fries were just ordinary, or perhaps it was because I'm stunned by the burger? I don't know haha..

well, I guessed I made a perfect choice for dinner.. and I'm definitely coming back.. me and Bergyu are in love.. madly :)

a few weeks ago, my bf and I went to Central Park just to look around the mall.. around 7 p.m we decided to see their fountain show located in the Tribeca Park.. it was very crowded and the show was quite entertaining.. then our stomach began to roar.. quite confused where to eat, we spotted Domino's Cafe right across the Tribeca Park..

the restaurant was decorated in festive colors with steel furniture, dominantly in red and blue with a hint of yellow.. it was quite crowded when we arrived and we're lucky to get a table on the corner.. the concept of the restaurant is a fast-food restaurant, so first, we have to place our order in the corner.. wait for our orders to be prepared and pick up our orders once our name is called.. we decided to pick Meal Deal 1 - Medium (Rp89,000), consisted of 1 Super Deluxe Pizza 10", 1 side dish and 1 liter drinks..

we picked American Classic Cheeseburger with Beef Lasagna and Fanta Strawberry.. the pizza consisted of beef crumble and beef rasher with onion, mustard, tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.. it was really delicious, in my opinion.. it's even better than the famous Pizza Hut, again in my opinion.. the pizza crust was served warm, crunchy on the outside while soft on the inside.. the toppings were generous and perfectly combined.. there's actually an option of the pizza crust between the classic hand-tossed, crunchy thin crust or cheese edge.. a friend of mine told me that their crunchy thin crust pizza was also delicious.. then, that's the reason for me to go back..

the beef lasagna came in a really small portion.. the picture in the menu was really deceiving.. I'm disappointed.. it tasted rather sweet, which was weird for me.. too bad I didn't like it.. I should have prefer their chicken wings instead..

overall, there's a potential chance that I'm coming back for their pizza and their chicken wings.. the portion was generous, the service was very fast and the price was affordable..

the most famous chicken wings in Singapore would be crowned to 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken, or also known as Bonchon Crispy Chicken.. lucky for me, I got the chance to try the original chicken wings right from the parent store located in ION Orchard.. I love their store design and the matching packaging design :)

since my brother was our host, he picked the meal for us.. a set of one glass of soft drink, french fries (not pictured) and 12 pieces of chicken wings for SGD17.20.. the french fries was supposed to be unique since it was seasoned in chili and seaweed powder.. but I found that the seasoning was rather tasteless and brought no value-added to the french fries.. luckily, the fries were crunchy and hot, which I like.. I found that their fries was somehow better than fries I used to find in fast food restaurants, I don't know why..

so what about the famous chicken wings? wait.. let me explain first that there are two choices of sauce, spicy chili and garlic shoyu or you can mix both sauces.. my brother picked the spicy chili since we're all chili fans.. my first impression was those wings looked really appetizing with red chili sauce all over.. turns out that it was not too spicy for my tongue and there was a hint of sweet in the sauce.. I still like it but I just wished it could be spicier.. the chicken wings were crispy outside and juicy inside.. I can say that it was famous for some reasons, and I guess I'm officially a fan haha..

P.S: can't wait to try their newly opened branch in Epicentrum Walk :)

Ikea must be one of the most popular furniture store in the world.. lucky for Singapore, Ikea has opened two branches, with a unique design and affordable price, no wonder Ikea was always busy.. I wonder when they'll open a store in Jakarta haha.. other than selling furniture, Ikea also have restaurant, serving mainly Swedish food, their county origin..

on our short visit to Singapore, my brother insisted us to eat there, since my mom had never been there before.. it was one crowded Saturday afternoon in Ikea.. the restaurant was very full and almost every table was occupied.. luckily, my brother's girlfriend arrived early and got us a table..

the concept of Ikea Restaurant is like fast food restaurant.. first, you need to take your tray and queue.. in my case, it was a looonnnggg queue *sigh*.. along the queue, there were refrigerators, mostly filled with fresh salad and desserts, so you can take whatever you wish to have and put it in your tray.. once you arrived at the counter, you can order the main course, and the waiters will prepare you orders right away.. make your payment and you have your meal..

my mom and I decided to share a portion of Ikea famous Swedish Meatballs (SGD8.00 per 15 pieces).. our Swedish Meatballs consisted of 15 pieces of meatballs (mix of beef and pork) and boiled potatoes served with cream sauce and lingonberry jam.. at first, I found it quite weird to eat meat with jam haha.. but it turned out that the dish was delicious.. I love their meatballs since it was tender and juicy, matched perfectly with the rather-bland cream sauce and sweet lingonberry jam..

Salmon with potatoes and vegetables (SGD7.50) was my brother's pick for lunch.. it surely looked very appetizing.. two pieces of baked salmon served with boiled potatoes and long beans then poured with butter sauce.. it tasted just as good as it looked.. the salmon was nice, though my brother said the size much smaller than he remembered, perhaps because it was very crowded.. I like that the salmon was tender, fresh and not overcooked.. the butter sauce was a match for it.. I surely like it, though I just tasted two bites of it :)

dessert time.. my brother picked Daim Chocolate Cake (SGD3.20) for us.. Daim is actually a Sweden chocolate brand, famous for their crunchy butter almond bar covered in milk chocolate.. so Daim Chocolate Cake is a layer cake of chopped almond and some golden custard, topped with Daim chocolate.. it's a piece of heaven.. I love Daim chocolate so much, so this dish was a perfect dessert for me..

overall, it was a nice lunch we had at Ikea.. good food, though crowded place.. and it's nice to see the cute furniture displayed there.. a nice dining experience for me.. Ikea also sells their signature Swedish Meatballs frozen in their Swedish Food Market.. my mom decided to bought a package of it home.. 1 kg of köttbullar meatballs, a jar of 400g of Sylt Lingon lingonberry jam and two sachets of 40g gräddsås cream sauce for SGD24.00 (if I'm not mistaken).. Ikea has become a must-visit place whenever I have the chance to visit Singapore :D

finding a place for breakfast in Singapore is surely not a big deal.. many restaurants provide breakfast here, including those fast food restaurants and bakeries.. a friend told me that Singaporean were big fans of breakfast.. no wonder, almost every restaurant opened early in the morning..

my mom and I were looking for a nearby restaurant for our breakfast.. we decided to walk a little bit further from Marina Square and found a little white stall in Citylink Mall, named Toast Box.. I actually have read about this restaurant from inijie and my brother told me that they serve good Singaporean laksa..

Toast Box is actually managed by the same group of Bread Talk.. the small restaurant was dominated in white, wooden furniture.. it is simple but very welcoming and comfy, in my opinion.. it was around 9 a.m when we came and the place was not crowded.. first, we have to make our order and payment at the cashier.. our orders then were prepared freshly and delivered to our table..

our order included Laksa and Barley Drink Set (SGD5.50), Kaya Traditional Toast (SGD1.40) and Kopi C (SGD1.50).. I think it was my first time trying barley drink, but I like it.. it's actually made from barley seeds, which shape similar to rice seeds.. it tasted refreshing, and from what I read, it's good for soothing our body.. my mom's kopi c was also nice, well, at least my mom liked it.. fyi, in Singapore, kopi c means hot coffee with evaporated milk.. I was quite confused about the coffee terms there, but I think Wikipedia has helped me a lot to understand..

not long after our drinks came, my laksa came.. it came in a huge bowl, with an appetizing red-orange soup.. it was one big portion of laksa, especially for breakfast, but since I shared it with mom, I found it was just the right portion..

the laksa consisted of shrimps, tofu and fish sticks on top of rice noodles in a coconut-based curry soup.. here, the rice noodles was cut into smaller pieces, which was known as locupan in Indonesia.. I found that this smaller pieces of rice noodles was intended so that the whole dish can be eaten using spoon only (without chopsticks or fork)..

back to the taste, it was delicious, just as good as it looked.. the soup was hot and really nice.. even my mom, who first thought it was rather weird having laksa for breakfast, couldn't stop eating until we finished the whole bowl haha.. the rice noodle texture was nice and not overcooked..

what's the point of going to Singapore without trying their traditional dish of kaya toast? to complete our breakfast, I insisted to have kaya toast.. Toast Box's kaya toast was freshly baked, which made it warm when it reached our table.. crunchy toast, not-too-sweet, generous kaya jam plus melted butter.. it was a little bit of heaven haha.. it was really delicious and matched my tongue really well.. I can't compare it to the famous Ya Kun Kaya Toast, since it's been a while since I had meal there.. but I can say that kaya toast served in Toast Box was one of the best I have ever had.. too much you think? not if you have tasted it :)

let me remind you again, that the purpose of our short Singapore trip was to celebrate mom's birthday.. so on June 17, 2011,we asked her to go out on a dinner.. though my mom didn't usually have dinners, we dragged her still haha.. she had heard about the famous Tony Roma's in Jakarta but haven't had the chance to visit.. I knew it, so my brother and I decided to treat her dinner here..

we visited the one located in Suntec City Mall, since it was right next to our hotel.. we arrived around 7.30 p.m Singapore time and there was a line there *sigh*.. I don't usually see a queue in Tony Roma's Jakarta.. my conclusion was Singaporean people didn't have enough restaurant and place to visit, so almost every restaurant is crowded during eating time haha.. luckily it only took us 15 minutes of waiting and we got our table..

my mom said that this is the best dish of the night haha.. it was Caesar Salad (SGD10.90), a huge bowl of Romaine lettuce with tomato cherries and bread crumbs topped with shredded parmesan cheese and house special Caesar dressing.. I have to say that it was really good.. the sauce was quite sour but went really well with the lettuce, it refreshing and really appetizing..

then came Onion Loaf - Full Loaf (SGD13.90), deep-fried onion rings shaped like a bowl served with BBQ Mayo sauce.. again, it came in a huge portion, typical American style restaurant.. it was good, as usual, and a little crispier than those I had in Jakarta.. the sauce is as good as I remember and the whole dish was great.. if only I didn't have my diet, I would eat more of it haha.. oh, and since tap water is drinkable in Singapore, we can order refillable iced water for free.. yay for free items :D

my best dish of the night would be The Original Baby Back Ribs - Full Slab (SGD34.90).. anyway, just for your information, all the dishes mentioned here were share, so I didn't eat the whole portion (before you think that I'm such a big eater).. since the baked potato were sold out, we decided to pick mashed potato and coleslaw as our side dish.. the ribs is as good as ever.. it was juicy and tender, accompanied nicely by a spicy-sweet BBQ sauce.. I love their mashed potato since it was topped with melted cheese and bacon bits.. unfortunately, the cole slaw was too sweet and was not our favorite..

those three dishes were finished and we handed the empty plates to the waiter with a full stomach haha.. no wonder my diet didn't work :( a nice birthday dinner, mom said.. and that simple phrase really warmed my heart :) overall, great foods shared with family, through laughter and small talks really made my night.. the total billed charged was around SGD70 something, which means the total tax and service was around SGD10!!! pricey Singapore..

S$1 Ice Cream @ Orchard Road

I supposed that it is one of the most popular dessert from Singapore? I'm talking about the S$1 ice cream which can be found along the famous Orchard Road..

as it was one hot, sunny afternoon in Orchard Road, added by the adrenaline rush seeing "Sale" and "Discount" tags in almost every store along the Orchard Road, I decided to treat myself something sweet and cold.. just when I needed, I spotted a middle-aged aunty selling the S$1 ice cream right across the street in front of ION.. her motorcycle-turned-to-stall was quite crowded when I came..

a selection of ice-cream flavors including chocolate, strawberry, durian and coffee were available along with selection of bread, wafer and cup as companion.. since I'm a coffee addict and looking for something light, I decided to pick coffee ice cream with wafer.. once aunty got my order, she brought out a big ice cream bar (it was written Wall's on the box) from the freezer.. it was cut in a size of soap bar then slipped between two wafer stick and wrapped with a piece of plastic.. she handed me my ice cream and said "one dollar" in a Singaporean English accent, which I barely understood haha.. luckily I got my brother to translate and pay it for me haha..

so there it was, a cheap and refreshing afternoon snack.. it tasted really delicious despite the cheap price.. I remember when I visited Singapore back in around 1996, it was priced the same S$1.. I supposed no inflation effect on the ice cream? haha.. ups, sorry I mentioned economic terms.. anyway, it's still a little nice gem we could found in the hectic and expensive Orchard road..

MOF actually stands for Ministry Of Food.. it was established in Singapore in 2006 and opened its first outlet in Marina Square.. the "My Izakaya" is a concept introduced to bring mass culture Japanese cuisine to Singapore to greater heights, creating a healthy, wholesome and charming dining experience (you can tell that I'm copying from the website :P).. MOF actually has opened its branch in Indonesia, located in Plaza Indonesia..

our flight to Singapore was on 6.30 a.m Indonesian time, thus my stomach was empty when we arrived around 10.00 a.m Singapore time.. I didn't have my breakfast, so I was so hungry after we finished checking in at our hotel.. due to the urge to eat (my stomach was screaming back then), we decided to have our first lunch at Marina Square (a shopping mall located right underneath our hotel), and my brother suggested MOF..

once we were seated, I noted that there's a cute tea pot with matching cups on each table.. the waiter asked us whether we wanted tea then filled in the cup and light the small fireplace underneath to keep the tea warm.. I really love the green tea.. it's very light and not bitter at all until we finished the whole pot.. my brother said it was made from green tea powder and he actually expected something more.. nevertheless, I still love it :)

off to the food.. we were really hungry but then remembering the size of our stomach, my mom and I decided to share a set, so the short holiday won't break our diet *cough cough* haha.. Beef Curry Hot Plate & Seafood Moyashi Itame Set (SGD18.60) was our choice.. it was a set of sliced beef in Japanese curry and stir-fried seafood with mixed vegetables, served with rice and a bowl of miso soup.. in my personal opinion, I like Japanese curry better than Indian curry, since the ingredients was light and not overpowering the fillings..

I would say that the curry was the best part of the dish.. it's really delicious and light.. the curry is filled generously with sliced beef, carrots and onions.. the sliced beef was really tender.. moreover, the rice itself was delicious.. on the other hand, seafood moyashi was just ordinary and standard.. it was rather tasteless to my tongue.. another plus point, you will get a complimentary voucher for a cup of tea/coffee if you order any set menu.. I love compliments haha..

my brother picked Cold Soba & Mini Unagi Don Set (SGD15.80) which consisted of a small bowl of unagi on top of hot Japanese rice and a huge bowl of soba then served with miso soup... soba is actually Japanese thin noodle served chilled with a dipping sauce, called soba tsuyu (made from sweetened soy sauce and mirin).. to my surprise, the soba is actually served with ice cubes all over to ensure that the soba is kept cold during our eating time.. underneath it was a filter so the melted ice cubes won't ruin the whole soba taste..

so how to eat it? well, first mix the soba tsuyu with wasabi according to your liking, then pick a small swirl of soba and dip it to the tsuyu.. it was my first time trying soba and guess what? I love it.. it was really unique and rich in taste, though at first, I found it rather weird to eat cold noodles.. most Japanese people think it's better to eat soba cold than to eat soba soaked in broth, since it would ruin the texture of soba itself..

you haven't officially visit MOF if you didn't try their dessert.. this restaurant is quite famous for their delicious and healthy Japanese dessert.. my brother suggested us to pick Mini Macha Zen Combo Set (SGD8.80).. it was described as Hokkaido red bean paste with low-fat (yay!) Japanese green tea gelato and Japanese dumpling, served with Japanese mochi and soy bean powder..

the low-fat (I'm happy about it, so I'm writing it over and over again haha) green tea gelato was really nice and light.. it's not too sweet so it balanced the sweet red bean paste.. the Japanese dumpling (those white, chewy glutinous rice balls) was just ordinary, but it kinda completes the whole bowl of it.. MOF's Japanese mochi (rice cake) is rather different in shape than mochi I usually knew.. it's crunchy outside while soft inside, perfectly suited the sauce and soy bean powder..

overall, I'm satisfied with MOF.. good food, good place and good service.. what could be better? I supposed, cheaper price will complete the whole package? haha.. in addition to above prices, we were charged with additional tax and service, which kinda make the whole meal rather pricey.. I can't wait to try it in their Indonesian branch :)

staying in a rather pricey hotel brings such a different experience.. actually, I was intending to book a room at Marina Bay Sands hotel, unfortunately, the rooms were fully committed.. so my brother suggested me to stay at this hotel.. it was rated SGD216 per night with no breakfast.. I would say that this hotel really worth every dollar you spent.. the lobby is really luxurious and the room is spacious.. we even got our room cleaned twice a day and got our free water be renewed every time it was empty (well, maybe because drinking water is free from the tap in Singapore)..

another thing I was really happy about is that this hotel's design ensures that all rooms are available with view.. there's no room with no window to Singapore's view.. the service is really good though my mom found it quite hard to understand Chinese-Singaporean English haha.. it's strategically located in the busy area in Singapore, right on top of Marina Square Mall, in front of Esplanade and next to Suntec.. it's easily reach by MRT and only three MRT stations away from the famous Orchard Road..

after we spent our second day in Singapore wandering around, we came back to our hotel to get some rest and look what we found right on our pillow.. such a cute and scented message.. I believe it's those little thing that matters and finally stole my heart :) I heart you, Marina Mandarin Singapore..

on our second day in Bandung, we decided to go to Paris Van Java, a famous shopping mall in Bandung.. we went there quite early that only a few stores opened, so there's not many choices for breakfast.. on our way looking around the mall, we spotted a nice-decorated restaurant, called Katjapiring, which offers Malaysian and peranakan cuisine.. it was decorated in an old China eatery, kinda brought us back to past..

on the night before, I didn't have enough sleep since the five of us were too busy sharing stories and catching up with each other.. I felt a little sleepy so I decided to have iced kopi tarik (Rp14,500).. I need some caffeine to survive haha.. it tasted just fine.. standard coffee with milk haha.. I didn't expect something too special anyway..

I was quite hungry back then, so I ordered a portion of Nasi Lemak (Rp10,000).. it came in a small portion, just the way I would have for breakfast.. once I opened the leave, it was filled with rice and the toppings (peanuts, boiled egg, salt fish and shredded chicken) were just too little for the amount of rice that I didn't finish my rice.. the toppings were dominated with peanuts, so it was like eating rice and peanuts only.. quite disappointing for me..

my friends ordered Mie Siam (Rp11,000).. just like nasi lemak, it came in a small portion.. I got the chance to try a little of it and it was good, especially the chili accompanying haha.. it tasted rather sour but nice, in my opinion.. a friend of mine didn't like it though.. well, I guessed it tasted quite unique that not everybody will like it..

what's the point of eating at a peranakan restaurant without trying the kaya toast? still, as a part of our breakfast, a big one I supposed, we decided to order Kaya Toast (Rp11,000) to share.. to our disappointment, it was butter-toasted bread with a small portion of kaya jam.. I think we can make it at home by ourselves..

overall.. I guess I wouldn't be coming back.. the food I've tasted didn't impress my taste buds.. it was disappointment after disappointment.. I think the restaurant should improve their menu and service.. oh, once we placed our order, the waiter brought us a small portion of free crackers.. I supposed it should be treated as waiting snacks.. once my friend asked for more (we were five hungry girls), the waiter told us that if we want to add more, we have to pay Rp5,000.. it was too much for a small portion of crackers.. so, again, I think I'll prefer eating somewhere else..

traveling to Bandung means good food and great shopping.. especially when the journey is shared with college friends who we haven't seen for a while.. so there we were.. five talkative girls traveled together in a rented Kijang Inova.. this means a journey full of gossips, laughter and so much fun (poor you, driver).. it was a two-day trip, too short but I really enjoy every second of it :) we rented a car to pick us in Jakarta, travel to Bandung and go around Bandung, then deliver us back to Jakarta, the next day..

we started our journey quite early, so our first stop in Bandung was Mie Naripan to have some breakfast.. I heard that it was quite famous in Bandung and Jakarta, serving mainly noodles.. it was established in 1965, much older than me ya? I ordered a portion of mie yamien pangsit rebus - yamien noodle with dumplings (around Rp25,000).. yamien noodle is noodle mixed with sweet soy sauce, giving a unique and nice taste in your tongue.. actually, here you can choose between the sweet soy sauce or salty soy sauce, but I prefer the sweet one.. it brought me back to college days, when the five of us used to order each a portion of yamien noodle from our cafeteria and it tasted really delicious and was very cheap.. we also decided to order three pieces of bakso goreng - fried pork meatballs (around Rp3,000 each) to accompany our noodle..

the noodle came in a big portion, with generous minced pork on top of it.. it was chewy and nice, not overcooked.. I think the noodle was homemade.. the sweetness level was enough and just right, the way I would've like :) add a little chili sauce, then you have one perfect bowl of sweet noodle with pork.. I have to give a special credit to the dumplings since it was really delicious.. if I'm not mistaken, it was filled with a mix of shrimp and pork, but I'm not too sure haha.. the fried pork meatballs were just okay for me, nothing was special and I had better.. overall, it was a huge breakfast.. but delicious, I must say.. just a perfect way to start the trip in Bandung :D

actually it's been a while since I actually had dinner in this place.. it's even before I went to Bali, but due to no-time issue (haha..), I had to postpone writing this haha.. *excuses* okay, well, on one Saturday evening, I had a date with my best friend (yes, you can be proud :P).. we're actually on a mission to try something we usually had on our youth days (no, we're not that old, it's just some little things we do to make life a little more fun).. so we decided to pick Pisa Cafe, since we used to spend most our Saturday nights there when we're still in high school and college.. Saturday nights can be so packed when you're dealing with Jakarta's traffic, so instead of eating in the our usual place at Menteng area, we picked Pisa Cafe's branch at Puri Indah, located just before Puri Bugar..

the restaurant was not crowded when we arrived, though it was dinner time already.. Pisa Cafe at Puri Indah branch was a two-story building.. the first level is divided into air-conditioned area and outdoor area, while the second floor is more of a lounge area with live music performance.. we got ourselves a table on the first floor inside the air-conditioned area since we were looking for a cozy place to talk and share stories.. the dining area is very nice, with dimmed light.. it was still bright enough for us to be able to read the menu.. I really like it..

the menu is more various than I remembered.. we were quite confused deciding what to order.. my friend decided to try something new, and I followed haha.. I'm not a creative person, I guessed.. so it's Cuocere la Pasta e Formaggio (Rp39,500), which was baked penne pasta with chicken roast and salame beef topped with mix of mozzarella and parmesan cheese.. it was creamy and delicious.. I even finished my whole plate (usually I didn't finish my whole meal due to weight issue haha)..

for drinks, we decided to picked something we used to order back in the old days.. iced lychee tea for me and iced peach tea for him (Rp14,000 each).. to my disappointment, the flavored tea we remembered used to be accompanied by the fresh fruit.. but that night, our drinks only consisted of tea and flavored syrup..

going to Pisa Cafe wouldn't be complete if we don't order their famous gelato.. we decided to share a portion of Coppa Amore (Rp39,500) for the dessert.. it was basically a mix of six small scoops of gelato with wafer.. I don't remember all gelato flavors we ordered, but I remember that the best is tiramisu..

overall, it was one satisfying dinner with a good friend :) I think what matters most is the person you're eating with.. since good friends will always make a nice dinner experience.. will I be back? well, of course.. I love their pastas and gelato so much :)

last lunch at Bali.. I remember feeling so sad since it was our last day in the beautiful Bali haha.. anyway, my mom's friend suggested us to eat at Ayam Betutu Khas Gilimanuk.. actually I have seen this restaurant in Jakarta, but haven't got the chance to try.. it was so eye-catching due to the mascot on their banners..

between the hot Kuta and packed traffic, we managed to reach this restaurant and get ourselves a table.. the restaurant was quite full since it was lunch time.. nothing was really special about the restaurant.. it was just a medium-sized warung, located in Kuta area.. no air-conditioner and dominated with long tables and chairs..

we decided to picked Ayam Betutu Khas Gilimanuk (Rp65,000 - whole chicken).. it was told that this is one of Balinese favorite dish.. it was actually chicken cooked for almost 8 hours with various herbs and spices, creating a very unique and delicious taste.. the chicken was so tender and the herbs was really, really delicious.. I mean, the three of us finished the whole chicken, that chicken must be really good, right? haha.. and it was not too spicy for my tongue, not like what I've read in other food blogs..

whole chicken of Ayam Betutu is accompanied by a plate of plecing kangkung, (boiled water spinach topped with chili), peanuts and sambal matah (Balinese sambal consisted of chopped red onion and fresh chili).. their sambal matah is really delicious.. I love it :)

we also added a few more dishes.. since it was our last day, I think we became a little compulsive in ordering food haha.. we had three pieces of sate lilit (Rp2,500 each).. I think their sate lilit was just standard, nothing was really special.. or perhaps, we were too amazed by the Betutu chicken? I don't know haha..

another dish to come is Lawar Ayam (Rp17,000).. here, the lawar is rather different than what we had in Warung Bakas.. here, lawar was mixture of shredded chicken and unripe jackfruits.. it was quite good, but not too special.. actually I like the one in Warung Bakas better..

overall, I would say that eating the Betutu chicken was a nice experience.. a nice family feast :)

Cafe Seminyak

another must-try list around Seminyak from my friend is Cafe Seminyak.. it's strategically located in the main road of Seminyak area.. the restaurant is decorated in a grandma style living room.. it's an open-air restaurant surrounded by trees, which I thought supposed to give a homey feeling.. but in my opinion, made the restaurant rather hidden.. it's a luck for us to find that restaurant since their huge banner accidentally caught my eyes..

the restaurant offers various menu, including breakfast menu, Indonesian menu, sandwiches, Mediteranian menu, desserts and pastries.. we spent quite a while looking at the menu before deciding what to order haha..

we were still amazed by Made's Warung's lemon juice.. so we decided to order two glasses of Lime Juice (Rp17,000).. turned out that the one served in Made's Warung is better.. this one is rather too sweet.. I thought the idea of lime juice is giving a sour, refreshing taste, instead of mostly-sweet-than-sour taste haha..

then came our free bread.. it consisted of two small pieces of French bread, though there were three of us.. I guess the amount of free bread is based on the amount of main courses ordered, not the visistors.. luckily, we were not too hungry, so we didn't mind at all..

our first main course came.. Smoked Marlin Salad (Rp39,000).. it does look very appetizing, rite? lettuce leaves topped with feta cheese and olives then surrounded by smoked marlin.. complete that with lime juice and olive oil, voila.. you got yourself a very nice and healthy dinner :) I love this dish so much, though I haven't tried something like this before.. the cheese is really good, especially combined with the smoked marlin.. you'll get a nice hint of sour from the lime juice which just made the whole dish perfect.. fyi, the dish is part of Mediteranian menu, I think that's why I wanted to visit Greek instantly after I finished eating hahaha..

then came our Chicken Mushroom Bechamel French Crepe (Rp35,000).. I was quite confused by the name of the dish haha.. so basically, it's a thin crepe a la French filled with creamy, cheesy chicken and mushroom.. okay, you can start drooling, because this dish is really nice.. I love it.. the creamy sauce didn't make you go "eugh" after eating it.. on the other hand, it just make the dish really appealing to me.. and I just can't stop digging until it was finished.. wait, or that just because I was greedy? haha.. anyway, it's a nice dish

overall, I think they served outstanding menus with great taste.. too bad the service and place was not too satisfying.. but I think I'll be back (if I have the chance to go to Bali again, oh dear God, please listen to my prayers :P) for their food :)

Made's Warung

our second day in Bali had been really hectic, such a packed schedule, that we got really tired at the end of the day.. we decided to look for something near our hotel for dinner, and my friend told me if you're staying around Seminyak, you have to try Made's Warung.. after I searched for some reviews, we decided to try it.. anyway, this restaurant was established in 1969, such a long history for a restaurant..

the restaurant is easily noticed by a lot of funny statues in front of it.. inside, you can find not only restaurant, but also some famous Indonesian designers' stores.. the decoration of the restaurant itself is really nice.. it's an open-air restaurant with ethnic, wooden furniture.. it gave a feeling that we're in some old friend's house.. every night, there's a different show performed in the middle of the restaurant.. when I visited it, it was traditional Balinese dance performed by young children, which I think was such a good way to introduce Bali's rich culture.. I love the open-air concept, though after a while, my feet was bitten by mosquitoes..

we quickly went through the menu, though I already have something in mind.. my brother was so hungry, so I suggested him to eat something with a big portion, and he agreed to order Nasi Campur Spesial - special mixed rice (Rp60,000).. in Made's Warung website, it was one of the Top 20 dishes of the restaurant.. it consisted of rice, topped with various vegetables, chicken, fish, tofu, chili sauce, prawns and shrimps.. I can't even name each dishes way of cooking.. all of it were very rich and tasty.. yum yum..

my mom and I decided to share something, and we order Nasi Campur 1/2 + Gado-gado 1/2 - half of mixed rice with half of mixed vegetables in peanut sauce (Rp40,000).. in case you're wondering, yes, somewhere under those vegetables and various dishes, there's a small portion of rice :) it was delicious, as well.. we liked it so much.. the peanut sauce was not too sweet and all the side dishes were a perfect harmony for my tongue.. let me remember, I think there's balado tofu.. some beef rendang.. okay, I gave up, I don't think I know each name of those dishes :P

for drinks, my brother picked Lemon Juice (Rp15,000) while I picked Strawberry Juice (Rp15,000).. the lemon juice was really nice and refreshing.. while the strawberry juice was a bit to sweet for me.. I forgot not to ask for no sugar added haha..

overall, I think we had a satisfying dinner, a nice and warm place plus some great stuffs by Indonesian designers to be seen :) oh, and the price stated here is net of tax..

our second day in Bali schedule is to visit Nusa Dua beach, Dreamland beach and Garuda Wisnu Kencana.. Bali was hot as ever, a nice weather if you want to experience the real Bali.. my mom and I kept retouching our sunblock since we were afraid to get tanned haha.. since we were in Bali, my brother wanted to try Bali's famous dish, babi guling (suckling pig).. actually I wanted to try Bu Oka's suckling pig, however our driver said that Bu Oka's suckling pig is no longer delicious, he then recommended us this small warung on our way to after visiting Nusa Dua beach, Warung Bakas Sari Dewata..

the warung's menu was not various.. it offers mainly suckling pig.. I ordered Babi Guling Campur - mixed suckling pig (Rp40,000), consisted of suckling pig, pork satay, pork skin crackers, stir-fried string beans and lawar.. a full set of almost all menu offers haha..

the suckling pig and betutu chicken tasted just okay for me.. they were too oily for my tongue.. I was a bit disappointed and still wanted to try Bu Oka's.. probably save it for my next visit to Bali :P luckily, they provided sambal, which was the best part of the meal.. chopped chili mixed with oil and fried onions.. it was really great :) we even have to ask for more sambal..

oh, we also added veggies, again, to balance those oil we have eaten.. we were interested in lawar, which was Balinese special dish.. lawar is mixed veggies, unripe jack-fruit and grated coconut cooked with complete Balinese seasoning then poured with fried peanuts.. it was the sambal's competitor haha.. I love their lawar so much and it was the first dish to be finished haha..

since our hotel is located in an alley right next to Cafe Moka in Seminyak, of course it's a must to try it.. I have read the good reviews about this eatery in DetikFood and JenzCorner, so I was quite interested.. the interior of this small eatery is very nice and comfortable.. it's casual and calm yet very warm and welcoming :) it was not too crowded when we arrived.. anyway, I also find this restaurant really good that we had two breakfasts here :D

for our first breakfast, we actually intended to order Earl Grey Tea (Rp13,000) to share.. however, the waiter mistakenly gave us Chamomile Tea (Rp13,000).. so on our second visit, we ordered Earl Grey Tea (Rp13,000) to share and asked them not to make other mistake hehe.. I always love chamomile tea, especially from Twinings.. it tasted nice and soft, a perfect companion for my kind of breakfast.. my mom and bro prefers earl grey though, it tasted a little stronger with a hint of mint flavor..

our first breakfast.. since it was a brunch and we were looking for something light, we decided to order Sheppard Pie (Rp40,000) and Bacon & Onion Quiche (Rp23,000) to share.. Sheppard Pie, also known as hachis parmentier in French, is meat pie topped with mashed potato and baked cheese.. I found this dish was very delicious.. the meat was well seasoned and tasted really well in my tongue.. however, since it was mashed potato, it left an eneg feeling after we finished eating..

next come our bacon & onion quiche.. it does look very appetizing.. and the taste didn't disappoint us.. it offered a very generous filling thus very fulfilling.. it consisted of quiche filled with cheese, bacon and caramelized onion, which was a very nice combination.. I really love it.. a very satisfying breakfast :)

since our first breakfast was so satisfying and there's plenty more menu waiting to be tried, on our last day, we decided to have another breakfast there.. from our first visit, my brother was really curious about their gratins.. and I was so attracted to their croissants.. so on our second visit, we decided to order Pasta Gratin (Rp45,000) and Ham & Cheese Croissant (Rp23,000)..

gratin is actually a cooking technique in which ingredients is topped with bread crumbs, grated cheese, egg and/or butter.. but our pasta gratin seemed to be topped with grated cheese and baked to oven.. it was filled with fusilli pasta, cream and chicken.. and it was the best dish from Cafe Moka.. it was even better than their sheppard pie.. I instantly fell in love..

our ham & cheese croissant came a little late and it was overcooked that we had to asked the waiter for a new one.. luckily, she understood and gave us the new one.. it was huge and the ham was so generous.. however, I don't really fancy the croissant.. it was more of a bread than a croissant to my tongue.. maybe I should stick to their gratins :) and Cafe Moka also offers variety of cakes and pies, but unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it.. so I promise I'll be back soon..

Naughty Nuri's Warung

my personal must-try list in Bali is Naughty Nuri's Warung.. I heard it from my friends, saying that they served the first and best pork ribs in Bali with a very affordable price (remembering the price of full slab pork ribs in Tony Roma's).. first day dinner in Bali was their pork ribs, of course from my suggestion :D.. we arrived around 7 p.m, which is dinner time and found that the place was quite packed with people.. lucky us, there was an available table right near the entrance..

there's nothing really special about the decoration of the restaurant.. I think it used to be a house transformed to restaurant, dominated with old wooden furnitures.. I felt like I was in someone's living room.. one cute thing I noticed about the place is that it was full with pigs stuffs, there's pig pictures all over the wall, a pig statue in every table.. I mean, they were everywhere inside the restaurant.. once we made our order, the waiter put an empty basket on our table.. we were curious what it was for, then by looking at other tables, we found out that it was intended for throwing the bones.. haha.. a brilliant idea to avoid guests putting the bones on the table..

we ordered a bowl of mix green salad (Rp28,000) for our appetizer.. it consisted of mixed vegetables, including lettuce, carrot and onions served with Italian dressings, which was really refreshing and a good choice for an appetizer.. I am so in love with Italian dressing and so glad I found it here in Bali.. I think, it was good to balance your culinary journey during vacation by eating more veggies.. my mom was the one who kept telling us to order some veggie haha..

to the main course.. we ordered two portions of full slab pork ribs (Rp83,000 each) and a portion of potato wedges (Rp23,000) to share.. it didn't take long for our dishes to get served on our table.. it was huge portion for my standard.. after it went to my mouth, I found that the ribs were very juicy and tender.. the sauce was a bit too sweet for me.. but it went really well with the ribs, that I just kept eating it haha.. not even remembering how much fat it contained.. the potato wedges was just fine, nothing to complain.. it was just fried potatoes, after all.. oh, the potato wedges also came in a large portion, at least it was large for a Rp23,000 price :)

first culinary spot in Bali, Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika (Mrs. Andika Spicy Mixed Rice).. this small warung has become a really famous and must-try place in Bali.. since we planned our trip, my mom has put it in our culinary list.. so, we had our first lunch in Bali here.. actually, the warung doesn't serve any Balinese dishes, instead it serves more of Javanese dishes, which reminds me of Warung Tegal found in every corner of Jakarta..

it was really crowded at the time we arrived and we have to wait to get our table.. it's located in a very crowded street, near Joger, the famous t-shirt shop in Kuta.. the warung serves many kinds of dishes, but I heard that their specialties were ayam bumbu Bali and abon sapi.. once we made up our mind about what to order, we asked the waiter to pick our desired dishes, then she handed us our meal and a card stating the cost of the meal.. payment should be made after we finished our meal..

my lunch was ayam bumbu bali (Balinese chicken), corn patty and stir-fried long beans.. it cost me Rp22,000 for the whole meal.. I like the sambal so much.. it's very rich in taste and spicy.. though it was not really suitable for the hot weather, since I became wet of sweat after eating haha.. the chicken is also special, spicy and nice.. I love it :) I guess there's the reason behind the popularity..

last week, my family went to Bali for a family vacation.. it's been a long time since our last vacation together.. apparently deciding where to stay is not a simple problem.. you have to consider the budget and other family member's need.. and when it comes to searching those beautiful places, my mom and bro left it all to me.. such a hard job! luckily, my friend told me about this place, called Clio Apartment located in the heart of the exotic Seminyak area in Bali..

looking at their website, I instantly fell in love and by reading the reviews in trip advisor, we decided to try staying there.. Clio Apartment is located in Mangga alley, a small lane right next to the famous Cafe Moka in Seminyak.. and when I say small, it means really small that it only fitted one car.. it was rather hidden and no big banner saying where Clio is.. luckily, we managed to find it anyway..so here's the front look of Clio Apartment..

we rented two Studio room (Rp500,000 per night per room), one for me and mom, the other one was for my brother.. let's go to the room.. first thing I noticed was the huge bed and the spacious room.. it looked exactly like those in the website, which was relieving.. the decoration is very modern and comfy, very pleasing.. I instantly fell in love.. in our studio room, besides bed, we were provided with a small kitchen with the utensils, so my mom can boil some hot water to make her morning coffee and night tea.. we also provided with a huge sofa bed and a working table.. their concept is open-room, that's why only the toilet inside our room has a door while the shower, located right next to our little kitchen, has no door and only bath curtain..

as part of their service, Clio Apartment provided complimentary breakfast, consisted of a bowl of tropical fruits and a cup of coffee/tea.. unfortunately, the fruits provided were bland and I don't like it at all.. so basically my breakfast in the hotel was a cup of coffee.. haha.. it was not a big deal for me, since I have prepared my stomach for Balinese cuisine haha..

Kopi Luwak

I'm such a big coffee fan.. I always find coffee as relaxing and nice :) I think my previous job as an auditor made me find coffee as an alternative to fight sleepiness since I have a long working hours.. I would like to introduce you to one of Indonesia's special coffee which is kopi luwak (civet coffee).. kopi is Indonesian language for coffee while luwak is Indonesian name for Asian Palm Civet..

now, civet coffee was made from coffee beans which has been digested by luwak.. confused already? haha.. so basically the civets eat coffee beans then coffee beans got passed through their digestion process and come out as part of their pup *euhh*.. turns out that civets' digestion process brings unique flavor the the coffee beans..

my mom is another big fan of coffee, so during our window-shopping time, we sneaked to a coffee shop called Kopi Luwak, specializing of course in kopi luwak.. since it was on Oprah Winfrey Show, people all over the world has recognized it as one of the best coffee in the world, costing almost USD85 per cup.. in Kopi Luwak, we can pick between original kopi luwak (Rp85,000 per cup) or kopi luwak gold blend (Rp19,500).. how can it be so much different in price? well, because original kopi luwak made from 100% kopi luwak and the gold blend only consisted of 5% kopi luwak.. since it was a try, my mom picked the gold blend kopi luwak.. and guess what she say? of course, it was delicious and very rich in taste..

I decided to pick something lighter.. a little more youthful haha.. it's Mocha Rhum (Rp27,500) which was a mix of mocha coffee and rhum topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.. it was delightful and nice.. I love rhum so much since it just gives the drink a very unique, likable flavor.. the coffee is also great, it smelled really nice and tasted nice as well..

to accompany our coffee time, I picked Spicy Tuna Salad (Rp26,500).. it's not a really suitable companion, eh? haha.. I just thought of picking it since I was craving for salad so much.. the salad is nice.. generous tuna which was spiced really nicely.. I love their spicy sauce :)

overall, I had a great experience in Kopi Luwak.. nice coffee and nice food as well with affordable price.. and it's 100% Indonesian, how I love Indonesian products :)

it's a brand that everybody has been familiar with since it started opening their stores all over malls in Jakarta and has expanded their business to Singapore.. quite a proud thing for us Indonesian to export something to our neighbor country, than just keep importing foreign brands :) it's been a while since I visited J.Co.. it was back when I was still a college student and J.Co was such a hit, my friends and I used to come here once in a while to buy their donuts..

anyway, during our wandering around Central Park, we spotted J.Co in the main atrium.. we were not so hungry and planned not to have dinner.. but something in J.Co attracted my bf.. it was J.Co's sandwich haha.. it's called J.Club.. their sandwich is different since instead of using bread, they use their donut as the bread, filled with various toppings.. bf picked J.Club Sausage Sandwich (Rp9,500), which turned out to be quite nice haha.. the donut didn't taste sweet, instead it tasted rather salty, but still fluffy like J.Co's typical donuts.. I think it's a nice snack to have when you're not too hungry :)

as we were sitting in J.Co, my eyes got me seduced.. so I ordered a couple portion of J.Cool to share.. I noticed in their menu that they have yogurt with selection of plain, mango and berries.. I thought that mango and berries were flavored yogurt, but it turned out that it was the plain yogurt plus mango/berries jam.. kinda disappointed, but I have placed my order.. so I got JCool mango with strawberry mochi, longan and choco caviar (Rp28,000).. I love their choco caviar though it was not the perfect match to yogurt but it just tasted delicious :)

[Revisit] Nanny's Pavilion, the Terrace

another visit made to Nanny's Pavilion.. it's always been a pleasure for me to visit this restaurant.. maybe I'm overrating it, but I just love their decoration so much.. the food is also delicious and affordable.. so on a bright sunny Saturday, bf and I went to Central Park and decide to have lunch here..

I was so in love with their blueberry lemonade (Rp20,000) from my previous visit that I ordered it again.. actually I tend to order something that I already fell in love with, than trying something new haha.. bf ordered blueberry milkshake (Rp22,000), for he's such a fan of milkshake.. their blueberry lemonade is as refreshing as I remember.. I don't fancy the blueberry milkshake though, it's just (IMHO) blueberry and shaken milk were not supposed to be together.. *even the small pot of flower in our table matched our drinks :D

for lunch, I decided to try their selection of waffle.. and I picked my grandma chicken pesto waffle (Rp24,000).. it's a piece of waffle topped with chicken and pesto then melted cheese.. and here I went fallen in love again haha.. thought it was only one piece of waffle, it turned out to be very fulfilling..

anyway, I love eating western food with additional spices, included crushed chili and tabasco sauce.. and of course a little chili sauce would be better :) it looks even more appetizing to me :D

bf was looking for more "heavy" meal so he thought about rice.. I suggested him kim's tuna with rice (Rp34,000) that I ordered previously and he obeyed haha.. when it came, he directly told me that it was such a small portion.. after his first bite, he admitted that it was delicious, though he wanted more haha..

of course, we just can't miss the dessert here.. so we ordered linda's roll pancake (Rp29,000) to share.. it consisted of rolled pancake filled with peanut butter jam and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.. are you drooling already? because it's delicious!! I LOVE IT.. I'm actually not a fan of peanut butter, but this one definitely stole my heart :)

overall, we had a happy and fulfilling dining experience here.. don't forget that the price stated does not include tax 10% and service charge 5.5%.. but I guess the meal worth every Rupiah spent, the service was excellent and the decoration was just perfect :)
