Gudeg Bu Kris

this is a really fresh post as this was my lunch today..

gudeg is Indonesian traditional food originated from Yogyakarta.. the dish is made of young jack fruit boiled for several hours with palm sugar and coconut milk leaving the brown color to the young jack fruit.. a must companion would be sambal goreng krecek or crisp beef skin stew..

I found it a bit hard to finally have a nice plate of gudeg in Jakarta.. the one I had in Yogyakarta has set the standard a little high.. the common mistakes I found included too sweet or too tasteless haha.. it was so hard finding the perfect, balanced taste of gudeg.. luckily, my mom brought me here to, her legendary gudeg stall.. it was legendary since my mom has been a customer since her college time.. located in the heart of Grogol where my mom used to rent a room, the eatery was not hard to find..

Gudeg Bu Kris has start their business since 1970.. this surely described how legendary the eatery is.. the place was very humble and a bit old.. the eatery was filled with vintage, wooden furniture.. very simple and I just can't help myself wondering the last time this place got proper make-up.. the place was very clean, so it was not a big deal for me anyway..

off to the food, I placed my order right before I was seated.. a plate of complete gudeg with ayam opor (chicken cooked in coconut milk) was my choice.. the taste? it was great.. well, at least, it exceed my expectations.. a very tasty gudeg and delicious sambal goreng krecek.. ayam opor was definitely a perfect choice to complete the hearty lunch.. all components are perfectly balanced.. one specific thing I truly love was the white rice, which remained hot during the eating time..

overall, I had a great lunch experience in Gudeg Bu Kris.. delicious food and affordable price.. a complete gudeg rice with ayam opor cost me only Rp20,000.. my mom's gudeg rice accompanied with telur pindang (egg boiled slowly with various herbs) cost only Rp9,000.. a very good deal, indeed.. well, I guessed having a hearty lunch does not always have to be costly :)
