Gahyo

June was a month of celebration since my mom was celebrating her 50th birthday on 17th.. to celebrate it, my brother and I made her a little surprise.. my brother is actually working abroad in Singapore and without her knowing, he came home on 16th.. I picked him at the airport and we arrived home around 10p.m.. as he walked in her bedroom, she was so surprised that she barely can even speak.. I remembered that she smiled a lot and right at midnight, we presented her with a slice of Oreo Cheesecake from Coffee Bean bought in the airport.. I was so glad that we managed to surprise her.. I do hope she had a great night :)

so for her birthday lunch, we decided to take her to Gahyo, a Korean restaurant located in SCBD area.. I know that my mom is a big fan of K-drama and all the food shown in the series.. I know Gahyo from my office mate and google it to find that it was one of the best Korean restaurant in Jakarta.. so that's how we made our choice.. I have never been to Gahyo before, luckily, the restaurant was easily spotted, located right in front of SCBD's Electronic City..

the restaurant was quite empty as we arrived around 2p.m for late lunch.. the area is separated into two, the tatami area and dining tables.. we chose to sit at the tatami area.. as we walked in the restaurant, I noticed that there were a lot of waiters who were ready to serve us.. there was one giving us the menu book and guiding through it, there was another one brought the ocha and another one brought the banchan.. it was one kind of a service given to us.. the table was ready, each of us had a plate, cup filled with ocha, steel chopstick and spoon.. all of our eating utensils were covered in Gahyo's wrap and on the back of chopsticks cover, was a how-to-use-chopsticks-guide which I thought was very cute..

back to business, we ended up ordered teuk seng galbi (Rp198,000), dolsot bibimbab (Rp68,000), sundubu chigae (Rp68,000) and jabchae (Rp95,000).. teuk seng galbi is prime beef short rib boneless.. this dish was served with a plate of vegetables, consisted of lettuce, carrot, green chili and some other leaves I don't even recognized.. a waiter grilled the ribs right in front of us along with some raw garlic.. the way to eat it was first, take a leave, put the grilled rib and garlic on top, add some gochujang (chili pepper paste), wrap it then insert it to your mouth and have a juicy bites.. Gahyo's galbi was so tender, perfectly cooked and well seasoned.. I especially love to add gochujang since it added a unique flavor to it..

dolsot bibimbab is Korean signature dish.. I'm pretty sure everyone knows about it.. quoted from Wikipedia, dolsot bibimbab is a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul (sautéed and seasoned vegetables), gochujang (chili pepper paste), raw egg and sliced meat (usually beef).. all of the ingredients are stirred together thoroughly just before eating, usually served in a hot pot (dolsot).. in Gahyo, bibimbab is served with a bowl of clear soup, filled with nori and some minced meat.. I have to say that this probably one of the best bibimbab I have ever tasted.. the whole dish tasted very good, generous fillings and fresh vegetables.. the dolsot kept the dish warm throughout our eating session..

actually I wanted to have yukaejang for our soup menu in the first place, since I am a big fan of it.. but my brother picked sundubu chigae saying that we need to try something new.. sundubu chigae is a soy bean paste soup, served with bean curd, squash, onion, tofu, clams and stirred raw egg.. the soup tasted quite spicy, but I think I would still prefer yukaejang which has a stronger taste..

last but not least, we had jabchae.. actually we ordered to this to replace noodle, since in our Chinese tradition, eating noodles on your birthday symbolize long live.. the portion was very huge and it tasted really good.. Korean special glass noodle served with shitake mushrooms, onions, sliced carrots, bell peppers and beef.. I was a huge fan of Korean glass noodle and this one definitely fulfill my expectations.. since the portion was very huge, we ended up have to ask for the dish to be taken away.. the to-go package was very nice.. Gahyo even add some banchan to accompany the dish.. very thoughtful :)

upon finishing our meals, Gahyo still have something for us.. a waiter came and asked us to choose their dessert selection, free just like the banchan.. it was one of the best thing eating at a Korean restaurant, they are very generous.. so we had coconut pudding, coffee pudding and mango pudding.. a plate of fresh watermelon was also served in our table.. the best dessert would be the mango pudding.. it was silky and not overly sweet..

overall, I had a great time at Gahyo.. a little bit pricey compared to other restaurant, but worth every Rupiah spent.. four thumbs up service and great food.. what can you possibly ask for more? oh, the prices stated are subject to 10% tax and 5% service charge..

Lucy in the Sky

another new hip in town.. located in the busy SCBD area, this place is surely a gem in the middle of Jakarta's skyscrapers.. people today are not looking only for good food, but for one-of-a-kind eating experience.. like others, I was curious to eat on a roof-top, though it was just a two-floor building.. made a promise with my friend to meet him after office hour, I managed to arrive around 8.30 p.m.. had a little things to do at office haha.. as we entered the building, I can't help but feel that this building was quite old and rusty..

Lucy in the Sky is located right on the roof-top of what used to be Bengkel Cafe.. the eatery was quite full but not packed with people.. we managed to get a table for two, but unfortunately it was only available until 10 p.m.. another disappointment of highly demanded eatery these days.. I actually love the atmosphere here.. cozy and relaxing with dimmed lights.. just the kind of place I could enjoy and spend hours.. I love seeing the tall buildings' lights at night.. I just have this weird obsession on building lights at night haha..

off to the menu, Lucy in the Sky does not offer various menu.. I reckon there must not more than 15 food menu available but covered Western and Asian selection.. I was not too hungry so I decided to have turkey sandwich (Rp55,000) and iced peach tea (Rp25,000).. my friend ordered nasi goreng buntut - oxtail fried rice (Rp60,000) and iced strawberry tea (Rp25,000)..

it didn't take long for our drinks and food to arrive.. when my turkey sandwich arrived, I was quite disappointed by the look.. no veggies or any side dish at all, only french bread with turkey ham.. luckily, taste wise, it was good.. I love the taste of savory ham combined with the sweet cranberries jam..  somehow they just blend so well in my mouth.. but still, I do wish some veggies in my sandwich.. a piece or two of lettuce wouldn't hurt, would they?

the oxtail fried rice was not too appealing either.. the fried rice was served with sunny side up, pickles and crackers.. my friend was actually expecting some soup, but there wasn't any.. but after first bite, I really stopped complaining.. it was good and so tasty.. we believed they cooked the rice with the broth, since it was really, really savory.. even the pickles were very tasty.. I directly regret ordering the sandwich..

the flavor iced tea was refreshing.. not too sweet and quite generous on the fruit toppings.. it worth the price, in my opinion.. well, overall, I actually had a great time here.. the service was quite good, though I got the feeling that they were all in a rush.. quickly took our orders then delivering our food.. lastly, rush to clean our tables.. a little disappointing for a 11% service charge..

[Revisit] PEPeNERO Cuciana Italia

bf and I had another dinner at Pepenero Cuciana Italia located in Graha Niaga Building, Sudirman.. it's our second date here.. I was craving to eat pizza here, and so we came :) the atmosphere was as cozy and nice as I remember.. what I love about this place is it's simple yet cozy.. you can have a nice, casual talk and wear daily clothes..but you can also have a romantic dinner with your partner if you like.. the light was dim and you were accompanied with a light from candle during your eating..

we weren't so hungry back then, so we decided to order only one pan of pizza.. but as usual, an Italian restaurant will serve you a basket of free bread, and in Pepenero, they served not only one basket of bread but also a couple of tomato bruschetta.. I don't fancy tomato, so I just ate the bread :) the bread is served with balsamic vinegar and you can ask for butter if you like..

we ordered iced cappuccino (Rp17k) for me and iced lemon tea (Rp15k) for him.. the cappuccino was nice, the proportion of milk and coffee was just righte.. and I like it..

For the pizza, we ordered prosciutto e funghi (Rp 39k) which we thought consisted of mushrooms and cheese. but we were wrong, since it's also topped with some ham (sorry for not reading the menu carefully :P).. it tasted really good.. all the spices seems to be mixed well and nice.. I like it, good job.. haha..

not enough, we brought one pan of quattro formaggi (Rp47k) home.. the classic Italian pizza consisted of four types of cheese and fresh rucola salad with no additional topping.. I really like the quattro formaggi better than the prosciutto e funghi.. the cheese was nicely mixed and melted.. though when we reach home, it had gone cold haha.. I would order it when we go there sometime in the future :)

do come and enjoy the Italian pizza offered by Pepenero.. a nice pizza in a cozy atmosphere and it all comes in an affordable price :) what else would you ask?

PEPeNERO Cuciana Italia

Gw slalu suka sama yang namanya pasta.. well, almost any kind of pasta dan mau dimasak dengan cara apapun gw suka.. kcuali yang aneh-aneh banget yaa.. kaya pasta masak cabe ijo ato pasta goreng tepung.. emang ada? um, yah kan cuma kasi contoh :P hihi.. anyway, to be more general.. gw suka banget sama makanan italia.. walo itu cuma Pizza Hut.. i'm still loving it.. ga tau kenapa ya? apa mungkin karena cowo itali tuh ganteng-ganteng? ga da hubungan lagi ya? haha..

okay, so.. the point is.. gw menemukan satu resto itali yang oke banget.. uda tau dari dulu cuma aga susah buat nyoba.. scara ga ada temen gituh.. nah akhirnya stela sekian lama, gw berhasil makan di resto ini, called PEPeNERO.. it's from Bali I think.. and serves original italian cuisine.. karna stau sayah, chef nya impor dari Itali langsung.. the good thing about italian restaurant is that they serve free bread.. we love free stuffs..

pertama waktu qta baru pesen minum, they deliver the tomato bruschetta.. yang cuma gw makan rotinya ajah.. saya ga suka tomat yang masih berbentuk tomat.. later on, after we ordered our main course, datanglah sebaskom roti.. macem-macem gitu isinya.. my favourite would be sort of round bread with balsamic vinegar.. *drool*

what we had was ice cappucinno (Rp17), Ravioli Salsa Rose (Rp45) and Capricciosa Pizza (Rp42).. okay, I have to admit something.. I came here three times in less than 2 months.. pertama sama temen, kedua sama pacar dan ketiga sama kluarga.. and ordered almost the same things.. haha.. well, I'm in love with the Ravioli Salsa Rose.. I give it 9 in scale of 10 hihi..

the ambience of the restaurant in the Energy Building is really cozy.. warm and a little dark, since the only light was a small candle in your table.. perfect for a romantic candle light dinner :) I'm not being objective here since I'm madly in love with this place.. gonna come back for some quatro formaggi.. I'm craving......
