Old Town White Coffee

another kopitiam in town.. as you all may know by now, my mom and I are such a huge fans of coffee.. so together, we always try new coffee stall or kopitiam to help us survive the day.. that one particular day in Mall Taman Anggrek, we decided to try Old Town White Coffee.. located in Ground Floor, the eatery was quite eye-catching.. with dimmed lights and dark wooden furniture, this eatery was very inviting.. the decoration implying a cozy and modern look with a touch of vintage.. I was quite impressed..

Old Town White Coffee was established in Malaysia back in 1999, and since then has expanded their business to Indonesia, Singapore and China.. well, let's get down to our business.. my mom ordered their black coffee selection of hot old town nanyang o (Rp12,000) while I chose to try their white coffee, hot old town white coffee (Rp18,000).. quite interested in the food offered, we decided to share kaya toast single (Rp10,000) and curry samosa basket (Rp22,000)..

soon enough, our orders were starting to come.. firstly arrived was our coffee in two small black cups, which smelled really good.. the terms white coffee was referring to Ipoh white coffee which coffee beans were roasted in palm-oil margarine and the resulting coffee is served with condensed milk (source: wikipedia).. this was different with kopi o which coffee beans were roasted with sugar, margarine and wheat.. okay, enough with the theory.. in my humble opinion, the coffee was not the best I have tried.. the coffee was quite strong, even my so-called white coffee.. even after I add brown sugar, I can still taste the coffee bitterness and this coffee has a sour after taste, which I was not a fan of.. anyhow, the coffee was enjoyable, though was not my favorite, but it gives a new option and experience of drinking coffee..

kaya toast is definitely the best companion for coffee.. Old Town's kaya toast was definitely pleasing in the eye.. a white layer of kaya spread and butter between brown toasts was just irresistible.. it tasted awesome.. the kaya spread was not overly sweet which make the dish really enjoyable.. the brown toast was crunchy.. it was a perfect kaya toast.. the curry samosa basket took a little bit longer to arrive and it looked really disappointing.. I gave you the comparison between the actual one and the one pictured in the menu book.. HUGE differences! luckily, it tasted good that I don't have to complain.. the samosa were freshly served with a very tasty curry fillings..

the expectation from menu book
the actual result

overall, I think I had quite a good time at Old Town White Coffee.. good coffee and great kaya toast were not disappointing at all.. I will come back for more kaya toast..

Honeymoon Dessert

Honeymoon Dessert is a chain dessert restaurant that has gone globally, well, at least Asia-ly, including Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Singapore.. I think it's one of a kind restaurant that served only desserts.. desserts served are various from warm to cold dessert, from sago to pudding.. I spent almost 15 minutes only to flip the menu back and forth haha.. I was so confused in picking the menu.. there were me, my mom and my bro.. one weakness that my mom and my bro shared is always leaving the menu picking to me.. which makes me even more confused.. anyway, we decided to order their famous Durian Pancake and Mango Pomelo & Sago Sweet Soup with Green Tea Ice Cream..

the durian pancake here was very famous.. I think it's because they are the first to serve such dessert.. it's actually durian fruit and whipped cream wrapped in a thin soft skin.. I used to be crazy about the durian pancake here, but when I tasted it, the durian was not too sweet, and the portion kept getting smaller every time I visit haha.. I found that Jala-Jala's one is better.. the same price, if I'm not mistaken, and Jala-Jala offers a larger portion..

next we ordered Mango Pomelo & Sago Sweet Soup with Green Tea Ice Cream.. it was actually sweet soup filled with chopped fresh mango, green tea ice cream and pearls.. well, sago sweet soup was not too sweet, which I like.. however, the chopped mango was very sour, which I don't like.. thank God, the green tea ice cream was fabulous, so this dish won my heart.. it was quite pricey, but I lost the bill, so I don't remember the price.. haha..

overall, I think Honeymoon Dessert offers a great variety of dessert you may not find in other places.. they are specific and focus in their market, giving a brand new experience of eating dessert.. both desserts, cold and warm, gives a different taste so it's totally okay to order both hahaha :)

Nan Xiang

a few weeks ago, I had a date with bf and we went to our favorite shopping mall, which was of course Taman Anggrek.. one problem we have always faced was deciding where to eat haha.. since bf was craving for noodles and we saw this restaurant next to the cinema, we decided to give it a try.. it was Nan Xiang, famous for their la mian and xiao long bao..

I decided to order Lamian with Minced Chicken and Mushrooms, also known as Cha Chiang Lamian  (Rp39,800).. the noodle was home-made and very delicious.. I ordered the dry noodles, so they serve the soup separately.. the noodle was complimented with minced chicken, mushroom and tofu cooked in soy sauce so there was a hint of sweetness.. the portion was huge.. um, in my opinion, the taste was just ordinary.. nothing was really special.. I think I had better..

my bf opted Lamian Wuxian Beef (Rp42,800) which was lamian served with soup and slices of beef.. I tasted a sip of it and I liked it.. the soup was really clean, nice and warm.. the beef was very tender and juicy.. I think I made a bad choice haha.. I would pick this menu if I come here again haha..

there's always enough room in stomach for a "little" snacks.. haha.. since there was a promotion 25% discount with BCA credit card with a minimum purchase of Rp150,000, so we decided to add some more dimsum..

Bean Curd Spring Roll (Rp15,800)
Glutinous Rice with Chicken (Rp15,800)
Xiao Long Bao - Shrimp & Chicken (Rp29,800)

the dimsum was just ordinary.. nothing was really special.. the xiao long bao was nice and juicy.. I especially love the soup inside.. the food here is labeled 'halal'.. I've tasted xiao long bao filled with pork before, maybe that's why in my opinion, the xiao long bao was just ordinary.. I would prefer xiao long bao with pork haha.. for the drinks we oredered Chinese Tea (Rp8,000/cup - refillable)..

overall, I think this restaurant is just ordinary.. I didn't find anything really special here.. but it was quite crowded with people when we came and most of them ordered dimsum.. perhaps we should try other dimsum here some other time :)

Hachi-Hachi Bistro

had a quick dinner with bro and bf at Mall Taman Anggrek during a shopping spree hahaha.. well, christmas is time for giving and shopping :P we decided to eat at Hachi-Hachi Bistro.. well, it's a quite well-known sushi restaurant in Jakarta, originated from Surabaya and in Jakarta, they only have two branches, in Mall Taman Anggrek and Central Park.. I like the sushi here.. unlike Sushi Tei's sushi which more of a classic sushi, Hachi-Hachi Bistro offers modern Japanese fusion food.. if you decided to come here and try, I would suggest you to try their fusion sushi since it's quite different with classic sushi.. and different menu is good for your taste buds :)

black dragon roll - baked salmon roll - spicy salmon skin roll
we decided to order their black dragon roll (Rp39,000), baked salmon roll (Rp38,000) and spicy salmon skin roll (Rp25,000).. my favorite would be the black dragon roll, consisted of fried shrimp tempura rolled with nori and sushi rice topped with unagi and black fish eggs then served with fried crunchy tempura and teriyaki sauce.. I also love the baked salmon roll which was filled with crab stick and salmon topped with melted cheese, chili sauce and fish flakes.. the spicy salmon skin roll was a sushi rolls with salmon skin and Japanese cucumber inside topped with chili sauce..

spicy seafood yaki udon
other than sushi, we also tried their main course menu, spicy seafood yaki udon (Rp30,000) and two thumbs up for this menu.. it's actually fried udon with seafood and some sweet Japanese sauce.. I LOVE IT.. it tasted really delicious that I'm drooling while writing this post.. the seafood was very generous and it came in a big portion.. it worth every Rupiah you spend :)

during lunch/dinner time, the restaurant is very crowded and unfortunately, they don't have spacious dining area.. if you want to try this, better come early or you'll spend some time to wait for a table.. overall, I think Hachi-Hachi Bistro offers great food with a very smart price and fast service.. coming back for more? definitely :)

Food Court Mall Taman Anggrek

Rujak Juhi Food Court Mall Taman Anggrek (Rp19).. this stall was quite popular in Mall Taman Anggrek.. and very crowded during eating hours.. the stall also sells asinan betawi, rujak etc.. last week I tried the rujak juhi.. and tasted nice.. I love the peanut sauce combined with brown sugar.. I'm a fan of juhi anyway :) so I love this dish.. it actually consisted of fried tofu, potato, lettuce, rice cake and juhi.. then poured with the sauce, add a little chilli and eat it with the krupuk.. nice combination.. I'm drooling :P~

Asinan Betawi Food Court Mall Taman Anggrek (Rp18).. it's my mom favourite dish from this stall.. and my favourite too now :) asinan betawi  is served with peanut sauce while asinan bogor  is served with red sauce, I dunno from what ingredients :P lately, I was craving for asinan betawi with the peanut sauce and this MTA food court sells the best :) kinda expensive for a plate of vegetables, peanut sauce and krupuk.. but worth the taste you have in your tounge :)

Dinner Review: Jala-Jala

gw slalu suka Mal Taman Anggrek.. dan alesannya uda pernah dibahas di sini.. tapi gw slalu punya masalah klo kesini.. bingung mau makan dimana hahaha.. pasti banyak de yang ngerasain gitu (sok pede.. padahal blum scientifically proven) hahaha.. tapi klo gw ngobrol sama temen-temen gw, mreka juga suka bingung sih mau makan dimana.. aneh ya? padahal kan MTA itu gede luar biasa dan ga kurang restoran dan cafe dan coffee shop dan sebagainya..

anyway, wik en kmarin gw dan sang pacar ke MTA hihihi.. abis uda lama juga loh kita ga kesana.. trus ya itu tadi.. bingung mau makan apa.. sampe akhirnya kita menemukan restoran ini.. namanya Jala-Jala with the tagline "Medan Favourite Cuisine".. penasaran donk.. scara klo liat di depannya itu yah, dimsum dan dessert dijejer.. bikin lemah iman hahahha.. trus stela qta liat menunya sih, kayanya harganya mayan oke di kantong :) ini penampakannya..

what we ordered: siomay rumput laut (14k - 3 pieces), lobak goreng (16.5k), pancake durian (26k - 2 pieces), mie pangsit lada hitam (18.5k) and mie siram sari laut nelayan (20k) along with es teh tawar (4.5k each).. quite cheap rite?

the taste: the siomay rumput laut is very delicious.. enak banget ya ternyata siomay dimsum gitu wrapped in nori.. recommended.. walo siomay nya aga kecil cuma ya standar ukuran dimsum di mall yang entah kenapa uda template aja gitu kecil hehehe.. pancake durian is extraordinary YUMMY :P~ ga tau tuh kenapa.. gede loh pancakenya (makanya harganya juga paling mahal hihihihi..) compare to kopitiam eastern punya, yang ini sih jauh lebih enak.. it's filled with daging buah durian asli plus whipped cream sih tampaknya (aga ga jelas krim apa tapi enak).. it's the best dish that evening.. lobak goreng nya itu sih enak banget.. ok, yang ini sih gw ga objektif scara gw suka banget kue lobak yang dipotong-potong trus ditumis pake toge, jamur, kucai dan telor.. SUKA :) anehnya, the main courses are just ordinary.. enak sih, cuma ga sampe outstanding lah..

overall: lumayan sih.. apalagi klo buat nge-dimsum dan nge-dessert hehehe.. pelayanannya oke, cepet banget loh makanan qta dianter dan cepet juga diabisinnya hihihi.. gw sih puas, cuma porsinya sih ga tlalu gede.. i won't complain, scara gw kenyang banget abis makan itu.. kita bisa nyoba macem-macem makanan karna porsi kecilnya itu.. slaen dimsum dan mie, resto ini juga nyediain macem-macem fried rice, baked rice, hainan rice dan menu ala carte.. dari siang hari pas gw dateng ke MTA, ni resto rame loh.. almost all the tables are occupied.. tapi ya pelayanannya tetep aja cepet.. jadi ga bikin emosi jiwa karna nunggu makanan kelamaan :)

Lunch Review: Get Hooked at Fish&Co.

last saturday, had a nice lunch with sang pacar at Fish & Co.. it's actually our late celebration for the first anniversary along with the 13th monthversary hahaha.. we've been so busy that we can't get ourselves some time to have a nice dinner or lunch together.. anyway, so we ate here at the Fish & Co. Taman Anggrek (again) haha.. actually I wanted to have the lunch at Plaza Indonesia, however it was raining, so we decided to go somewhere near my house.. moreover, there's a 50% discount with Mega Credit Card for food only with minimum order of IDR150 thousands..

first, we ordered the drink-like-a-fish blackcurrant tea.. which turns out to be so good.. I totally forgot that the nestle blackcurrant tea actually tasted that good haha.. (IDR19)

before the food came, I took this picture of the sauces offered.. and my favourite sauce is the tar-tar sauce.. it was so good.. the best tar-tar sauce I've ever had.. definitely addictive..

I ordered the best fish & chips in town.. a classic meal here at Fish & Co. and still never disappointed me.. I love the texture of the fish and the way the fish blend with the butter sauce.. I also like the sourness of lemon and of course, lots of tar-tar sauce.. the fries was also good, not too dry and just right.. (IDR59)

next, we ordered the garden salad.. remembering the fish & chips got no veggie at all.. this photo below is a destructed form of the salad.. again, I forgot to take pictures and eat it right away hahaha.. it tasted so good actually.. it's a very simple salad, consisted of lettuce, baby tomatoes and cucumber poured with salt fish and fried garlic.. the sauce is mayo sauce, I guess and some sweet brown sauce.. when you mixed it all.. it tasted so great.. not the usual and rather boring kind of salad..(IDR32)

ow.. and here's me with my favourite dish in that restaurant.. the tar-tar sauce..

this is sang pacar with his order.. new york fish & chips.. it's actually the basic fish and chips, only there's cheese inside the fish.. I'm a cheese lover so for me.. it tasted good.. but I couldn't finish it due to the large portion.. so he ate the rest of the food hahaha :)
overall, we had a great lunch and came out with very full bellies.. the taste of fish & chips never disappoints me and Fish & Co. offered the best.. however, it's a bit pricey if there's no discount hahaha.. I surely will come back once there's another promotion *hoping eyes* haha

here's us.. celebrating our 13 months of relationship.. hope there's thousands to go :D

another saturday in orchard garden

Last saturday, I had a date with my lovely boyfriend.. As usual, the place for our date is taman anggrek mall :) we spent about 8 hours there hoho.. Well, the actual reason we chose MTA is that Aang has just return from bandung in the morning, so we picked a place that was reachable for both of us.. Anyway, I love MTA if you reckon from my previous post..

So anyway.. We had our lunch together in gokana teppan.. i picked this place because I’m longing for ramen.. i had the super hot ramen with 3 chilies while Aang had the beef teriyaki set.. We both ordered the ice lemonade for our drinks.. The ramen is quite good actually.. Though the noodle is like indomie, i love the soup and it's not that hot for me.. so, i can eat it without getting sweat all over me hoho.. Aang's food is quite nice with a very cheap price though it's quite a small portion, especially for his big stomach hoho.. The ice lemonade is too sweet for me.. I had better one.. But anyway, it's still a good place to eat for me, remembering the 'smart' price of the food :)

After our lunch, we decided to watch the 'Public Enemies', tempted by Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.. Well, for me it's just another gangster movie.. nothing is really special haha.. A bit disappointed remembering I used to adore every Johnny Depp's movie (excluding 'Sweeney Todd' urgh..) So anyway, maybe I had too much expectation hoho.. I still think it's worth to watch.. I still in deep love with Johnny Depp though haha.. I really thought he's a good actor with great choice of movie :) And I think Marion Cotillard was very beautiful and lady-like in that movie..

Anyway, I just googled and found the true story about this John Dillinger.. That's the picture of him.. I read his story in wikipedia and I think his life is very interesting.. Well, if you don't have anything particular to do, just read or google his story..

After the movie, we had our dinner.. It's the all you can take salad in Pizza Hut.. I was a big fan of salad.. And for me, this Pizza Hut salad is the best among all (until now).. I love the salad dressings, macaroni, the bread and scrambled-boiled egg.. Okay, it's really mouth-watering for me haha.. We had this full bowl of salad together and we can't even finish it.. Okay, Aang was not quite healthy, so he lost his appetite..

Well, anyway, here's our picture together in gokana teppan..

i wuff you, dear ♥
