The Holy Crab

Calling all seafood lovers! Be prepared to get your hands dirty for these finger-licking good crabs! Brought to you directly from Alaska, prepared in Louisiana style, this is a hit definitely not to be missed.. Located in the hustle Senopati area, The Holy Crab has come to satisfy your hunger for delicate seafood.. The eatery is schedule to be opened on Feb 3, 2014, managed under the Ersons Foods which has brought you the famous Santouka Hokaido Ramen..

Stepping in to the newly established restaurant, I can feel the strong ambiance of Southern American influence (those I saw in Hollywood movies).. Decorated in wooden, red furniture with of beach accents, it's just so homey.. Not to mention the bright lights, which made everything seems more cheerful.. They even paint 'The Dummies' Guide to De-shelling' for those (like me) who have limited clue  on what to do with the crabs.. How considerate :)

I actually read those guidance when I'm dealing with my crabs.. They're helpful!

Start slow with their appetizers to wake your taste buds up.. First up is fish and chips crispy fish finger 60k and cajun fries 25k.. Deep fried dory fish in a bite-size cut is the classic American dish.. The tender and silky fish texture combined with the crunchy coating are the best American classic.. I love the fresh fish texture, but found the seasoning a tad too salty for my palate.. Their cajun fries is a darling, though.. Well-seasoned crunchy shoestring fries are my favorite! I know how many calories they contained, but I just could not resist to have some more.. Just a little bit more, please?

Next up is house deep fried chicken wings 45k.. Chicken wings drenched in generous BBQ sauce.. I used to think that chicken wings can only be delicious at certain level, then nothing more.. I was so wrong.. This, my friend, should make to your must-try list! Those juicy-chicken-wings-in-lots-of-BBQ-sauce are to die for.. Go grab yours!

By now, your tummy must be ready for the star.. The main reason why we all came to The Holy Crab, the CRABS! *crowd cheering* There is no plates whatsoever for the crabs.. They are delivered to your table in a plastic bag, then you can pour all of it to the paper-covered-table.. Then get your hands dirty by eating those directly from the table.. New, exciting way of eating.. Before we go further, I need to equip you with some weapons in this crab war, just to ensure you get the best of it..
1. The Holy Crab's plastic apron.. It's to keep your clothes from the devilish, delish sauce and succulent crab meat..
2. Shellfish cracker shell opener (crab zipper) and wood hammer.. The important tools to ensure you get all the meat from the poor crab.. Especially the crab zipper, I adore whoever found this magical tools!
3. Lots of tissue.. Because you're eating with your hands and it's just not polite to clean your fingers by licking them, you're an adult and you have to be classy, right? Well, screw this! Just lick your fingers!

Ladies and gentlemen, here come the best part.. Let me introduce you to the mighty Dungeness Crab.. Imported directly from Alaska, exclusively by The Holy Crab, it is one of the most popular crustacean in the culinary world as one-quarter of their weight is meat.. Now that's considered a lot of meat for a crab.. Spoil your eyes with the food porn ahead..

I did not use that wood hammer though, it's photo props.. I simply follow the guide for dummies.. All you need is pull up the shell to open the crab then break the remaining part into two pieces.. Continue with breaking each crab leg, then unzip it using the magical shellfish cracker shell opener.. Voila! The delicate, succulent crab meat are all yours! Or if you are too busy to read, simply ask the waiters.. They are more than willing to help you.. Loving the service here :)

Way beyond my expectation, the crab meat is heavenly! Nice meat texture with a slightly sweet taste.. I have never tasted anything like this before.. The crabs were very fresh and you won't find any fishy smells whatsoever.. Add more to the goodness by dipping the crab meat into the superb Louisiana chili sauce.. It is a match made in heaven.. I finally understand the meaning of finger-licking-GOOD!

Second is the snow crab legs.. It is named so due to the sweet, delicate, snow-white meat.. Also brought from Alaska to your dining table, this crab legs are another recommended menu in The Holy Crab.. Attention peeps, another food-porn ahead..

Those are surely gigantic crab legs.. Snow crabs are served in a plastic bag, drenched in The Holy Crab's secret chili sauce.. Actually, The Holy Crab offers one type of chili sauce for the seafood selection, only the hotness level is ranging from mild, medium, spicy and Holy Moly! Mine was medium and I, as a chili-holic, found it not spicy at all.. I think I probably should try the Holy Moly! some other time in the future..

How to eat those gigantic legs? I broke the crab joints then again, unzip the crab leg shell using the magical shellfish cracker shell opener.. I was just so stunned with the way this tool works.. Opening a crab shell has never been this easy.. In the below picture, you can see the crack in the crab leg as the result of the shellfish cracker shell opener.. Oh, and of course, the sweet, delicate, snow-white meat.. Do excuse all the chaos in the back, you just can not eat crab neatly..

Other than crabs, The Holy Crab also offered lobster, shrimps and clams.. Too bad I didn't try any other menu.. The shrimps looked very appetizing though.. Pretty, eh?

The imported crab and lobster prices are seasonal, so we all have to pray for our luck.. The shrimps are priced 28k per 100 gr, while clams are 20k per 100 gr.. To accompany you eating the crabs, The Holy Crab offers various sides selection, from sausage, sweet corn, cajun fries, and even steamed rice, ranging from 15k to 25k.. But if you are looking for something light, grab their snacks selection, which includes calamari, fish fingers, chicken strips and chicken wings ranged from 25k to 50k..

The Holy Crab will be opened for public on February 3, 2014 5:00 PM sharp! Overall, it was a (more than) great experience I had in The Holy Crab.. Thanks to Executive Chef/Owner Albert Wijaya and Willy for being such a nice, helpful host.. Wishing you more success in the future and cheers to the opening of The Holy Crab!

Beyond Oysters and Champagne

oysters and champagne are match made in heaven.. they are classic food-beverage pairing.. the experts said that the smooth taste of champagne marries perfectly with the rich flavor of oysters, especially when both are served chilled.. I guessed that's the main idea of 'Beyond Oysters and Champagne' brought to you by Keraton Lounge.. every Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Keraton brought you the finest, freshest and most succulent imported oysters, served alongside Alaskan King Crabs and Jumbo Shrimps, accompanied by an endless pour of Billecart-Salmon Champagne.. the menu set options are available between 6 pcs or 12 pcs, with or without endless pour of Champagne..
  • 6 pcs of seafood combination without unlimited Champagne at Rp250,000++
  • 6 pcs of seafood combination with unlimited Champagne at Rp850,000++
  • 12 pcs of seafood combination without unlimited Champagne at Rp395,000++
  • 12 pcs of seafood combination with unlimited Champagne at Rp995,000++

'Beyond Oysters and Champagne' is held in the Keraton Lounge, beautifully decorated in modern and ethnic furniture.. I found this place was very cozy and heart-warming.. loving every details of the lounge.. anyway, let's start our journey with Keraton as our host.. started with the non-alcoholic luxury collection cocktail, java tai (Rp110,000).. a mix of black pepper syrup, lychee, fresh lime juice and local pineapple juice.. personally, I think the fresh lime juice overpower the other ingredients, creating a strong bitter-sour taste.. fortunately, I can still taste a hint of pineapple juice though I found not black pepper taste at all.. imho, it was refreshing though I wish to have a more balanced taste..

as the night grew older, we were served our champagne, Billecart-Salmon Champagne, originated from a champagne house in France, founded in 1818 after the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon.. acknowledged to be a few to remained family-owned (source: Wikipedia).. I'm not an expert, so forgive me for being an amateur.. in my opinion, the champagne was nice.. not too bitter with a strong fruity flavor.. I actually loved it.. though I cannot drink much remembering I drive home all alone.. remember that the champagne here is served free-flow, so you can actually have as much as you wanted..

then comes the seafood parade.. let the star comes in first, the fresh Fine de Claire oysters, specially brought to you from French.. the oysters were still alive, as I can hear their sounds when I was taking pictures.. the oysters were graded based on their sizes, grade 1 are the largest.. and what we were having that night were grade 2, just perfect bite-size for me.. it was my first time having fresh oysters, and it was great! really, I would have never thought that I would fall for these creatures, but I did.. they were served chilled and really fresh, not fishy at all.. I learned from Natasha to eat it with lemon juice and tabasco.. guessed what? it was awesome.. loved the mix of oysters' freshness and spicy-sour condiments.. thank God for oysters :)

Keraton does not only serves the fresh oysters, but also baked oysters.. this is an option for those of you who just cannot stand eating fresh seafood.. the oysters were baked with spinach and cheese, or known as gratin.. it was the best dish of the night.. I love every bit of this dish.. again, the oysters are fresh and perfectly matched with the baked spinach and cheese.. I would recommend this dish to everyone of you..

other seafood you can choose for your plate includes Alaskan King Crab and Jumbo Shrimps.. both are served chilled and fresh.. nothing is better than crunchy, juicy and sweet taste of fresh seafood.. one thing I can assure you, the size of these seafood are huge.. of course, you do not have to mess your hands opening these seafood, as they will be served to you at your most convenient way.. I prefer to eat those with no dipping to ensure I get the best taste of it.. but of course, it's our own choice.. the dipping sauces were also available according to your preference..

overall, I had a great time at Keraton Lounge, accompanied with the freshest seafood and other food blogger.. moreover, we got ourselves a very nice host.. thank you for having me, Keraton and ciao!

[Gold Coast] Peter's Fish Market

in substance, the picture above has nothing to do with the Peter's Fish Market post.. it's just I love that pic, no further reasons..

but let me tell you a bit.. just a tiny bit.. the pic was taken at Movie World, where we spent our second day at Gold Coast.. it was a huge theme park which has been on our must-visit list.. I am quite proud to say that I have managed to conquer their thriller rides, including Superman Escape, Arkham Asylum, Green Lantern and Scooby Doo Spooky Roller Coaster.. it was an achievement for me, really.. for a complete information of Movie World at Gold Coast, please make a visit to their website..

after a long and tiring day around the Movie World, we have planned to have seafood for our dinner.. and again, it was based on our friend's recommendation.. local's secret, she said.. it was Peter's Fish Market.. it was located in Main Beach right behind the luxury Versace hotel.. it was quite confusing for us since the area is quite high-class.. but between the luxurious buildings, there, the simple and humble stall of Peter's Fish Market..

basically, it is really a fish market.. you'll find lots of fresh seafood just like you'll find in the supermarket.. the choice is yours.. you can pick whatever seafood you like at any weight then take it to the cashier, make your choice of cooking, pay and you will get a number.. once your dishes are ready, the cashier will call you by your number and you have to pick your orders.. or, if you're amateurs like us, just go to the cashier, choose from the available menu, make your payment and get your number..

I think I don't have to re-emphasize that we, the young ladies, have no clue at all on how to choose fish or shrimps or any other seafood.. so, we're taking the short cuts and made our orders based on what's written on the black board.. our choices went to their specials, fish of the day, small calamari, 2 prawn cutlets, seafood stick and small chips (AUD16.00).. other than that, we had prawn skewer (around AUD3.00) and grilled snapper in lemongrass sauce (around AUD13.00).. one important thing is there will be no free sauce given, instead, we have to buy it.. a small container of sweet chili and tartar sauce each cost us AUD2.00.. that is almost equivalent to Rp20,000 each! since the place was quite packed, we waited quite a while.. until finally we heard our number being called.. dinner is served!

Peter's Special with the two-dollar-each sweet chili and tartar sauce

Prawn Skewer and grilled Snapper in lemongrass sauce
my first good impression about the dish was how fresh the ingredients used.. each and every seafood served was very fresh and just rightly cooked.. I love the crunchy batter of those fried seafood in the Peter's Specials.. I remembered that we were eating like in a race or something.. the french fries were fat and crunchy as well.. thinking about how much the sauce had cost us, we were so determined to finish them until the last drop and it was so good.. the prawn skewer was also great.. it was really fresh prawns and cooked nicely with a some spicy sauce.. the prawn was really delicious.. for the grilled snapper, I was not a fan.. I personally think the lemongrass sauce was too overpowering the whole dish.. the fish was very smooth and silky, though.. I wished I had prefer some other cooking style..

overall, it was a great meal we had in Peter's.. nothing is better than fresh seafood in the good cook hand.. this has made my recommendation list for those asking where to eat at Gold Coast.. cheers to good seafood and good friends :)

Fish&Co. - seafood in a pan

last week, several food bloggers and I got an invitation for a food tasting by Fish&Co. and Disdus (thanks a bunch!).. the event is held in their Plaza Indonesia branch on 6.30 p.m.. I came a little late, since it was after office hour (talking bout work loads here).. as I arrived, there was a long table filled with talking food bloggers community.. it's thrilling seeing all those people sharing the same interest :D

so off to the food tasting.. arriving first is their big fish drink, the jungle freeze and sharkie freeze (Rp39,000 each).. a huge glass of ice blended drinks enough for four persons and still will make you full haha.. jungle freeze has a hint of lime making it sweet-sour refreshing, which I love.. sharkie freeze, on the other hand, is a little bit too sweet for my liking, though I do like their passion fruit inside but not too much..

jungle freeze - sharkie breeze (Rp39,000 each)
starter platter (Rp99,000)
next to come was starter platter (Rp99,000), a huge platter consisted of crispy nachos, fried calamari, fish nuggets and prawn fritters served with Fish&Co.'s spicy mango vinaigrette, the most lovable tar-tar sauce and tomato salsa.. truly mouthwatering for me.. the nachos was not too crispy, but somehow I just kept eating it.. the tomato salsa was a bit too sweet, I prefer a sour tomato.. all of the seafood fritters were crunchy outside and tender inside, personally, I love the prawns so much.. I found their spicy mango vinaigrette a bit sweet and not my favorite, though other fellow blogger became a fan instantly haha..

the best fish and chips in town (Rp69,000)
seafood platter for two (Rp235,000)

the best fish & chips in town (Rp69,000) and seafood platter for two (Rp235,000) are the night's main courses.. the best fish & chips in town is probably the most recognized dish from Fish&Co., dory fish fillet coated in crispy batter and chips would be so hard to resist, though you're on diet haha.. the fish served to us was huge with lots of fat chips.. I usually add lemon juice just to add some freshness and eat it with their tar-tar sauce.. yum yum.. other than the best fish & chips in town, Fish&Co. also serves fish & chips around the world, including Singapore, Japanese, Philadelphia, Danish, Indonesia and New York (Rp79,000 each).. unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to try those..

their seafood platter for two is designed for sharing (would be for more than two persons I think), so please don't test yourself by trying to eat it on your own, trust me.. a HUGE platter of pan-fried seasonal fish, calamari (I love those calamari so much!), black tiger prawns and mussels in creamy garlic & lemon butter sauce served with "paella" rice and chips.. highlight of the dish would be their "paella" rice, a Mexican herb rice.. it was really good, even without any additional condiments!

hot fudge chocolate cake (Rp35,000)

ice bomber (Rp35,000)

though we were already really full, Fish&Co. still got something sweet to end our dinner.. hot fudge chocolate cake (Rp35,000) and ice bomber (Rp35,000) arrived safely on our table.. the hot fudge chocolate cake is definitely to die for.. it was moist and warm, lots of chocolate melts on top and added with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it's a heaven on earth haha.. a guilty pleasure but worth every single fat gained.. ice bomber is a mixture of chocolate and cheese cake ice cream with raspberries and topped with peanut crumble and chocolate sauce.. it was really cold but quite nice.. I love the cheese cake ice cream combined with peanut crumble so much that I kept digging in haha..

overall, of course I had a great night.. great food, full tummy and great new friends to share thoughts (thanks to Ruby and Dino for sharing the table and stories).. thank you Fish&Co and Disdus.. love you :D

Manhattan Fish Market

meeting old friends is definitely on top of my favorite things to do.. but sometimes it's hard to find the perfect timing to meet all of your group.. my college friends is one of the best example.. trust me, it's really hard to gather two auditors, one consultant, one accountant and one bank officer together.. haha.. that's us :D

well, thanks God, we finally were able to schedule our meeting during Lebaran holiday in Grand Indonesia.. the biggest problem we always have since college was deciding where to eat haha.. as we went through each option available, we noted The Manhattan Fish Market.. after peeking at the menu and got ourselves interested, we decided to try..

the restaurant was not too big, but quite cozy.. I think it was quite suitable for family dinner.. it just gave me warm feeling for I don't know what reason.. some of the wall were covered with bricks and some other were covered with New York landscape picture.. the restaurant was not full as we arrived and we got our table right away..

I noted that this restaurant pay attention to details.. for instance, one of the picture hanged was written "Off-fish-ially the best seafood in town" or in the back of waiter's uniform was written "Sea-cret Agent".. I found it really cute.. on the tissue available on our table, they printed the restaurant logo with a question underneath while the answer is available at the back of it.. mine was saying "why are sardines the silliest fish in the sea?" "because they climb into tins, close the lid, leave the key outside".. little things like this successfully made me smile..

off to the food.. we were very hungry and wanted to try every menu we found.. however, remembering our stomach size (and our diet *cough*), we decided to share our food.. we ordered Manhattan Seafood Platter for Two (Rp179,000), Regular Manhattan Fish 'n Chips - Pacific Dory (Rp51,000) and Regular Mixed Seafood Pasta (Rp69,000).. for drinks, we pick the bottomless flavored tea (Rp22,000), available with choices of blackcurrant tea or lemon tea..

our seafood platter consisted of deep fried fish fillet, fried calamari, Manhattan Flaming Prawns served with chips, garlic herb rice and chef's green.. the flaming prawns were directly grilled right before it was served to our table which wowed us.. compare to their competitor, the price was cheaper, but the serving size was also smaller.. there were only four prawns and four mussels, while we were five hungry girls..

the verdict.. the herb rice was very nice.. it tasted so good even without any seafood, but it's a bit too sweet for my tongue though I still like it.. the calamari was crunchy and tender.. the fish and fries were just okay.. the prawns were delicious but its sauce was a bit too creamy.. the mussels was fishy and I don't like it at all.. the portion of greens were too small and the carrots were raw.. oh, come on, it wouldn't hurt to give us more greens and to cook the carrots correctly.. the best of this dish would be their herb rice..

the so-called of-fish-ially the best fish 'n chips in town in the menu.. it is available for choices of pacific dory, pacific cod or sword fish with different price.. I would say that there's nothing really special about this.. just another fish 'n chips in town.. the portion was quite big and the price was still reasonable.. I won't complain and I won't praise either..

for our pasta, we picked spaghetti, served with marinara sauce combined with mussels, shrimps and calamari.. the marinara sauce is a bit too sweet for my tongue.. the portion was very small and the fillings was not generous remembering the price charged.. I didn't try the mussels and prawns here but the calamari was delicious and tender.. to be honest, it's not my favorite.. I have tasted much better marinara sauce..

overall, it's a restaurant with a very nice ambiance, but average food in my opinion.. the price is reasonable and I won't complain about the service.. other than that, it's just another seafood restaurant for me..

[Revisit] Fish & Co.

weekend date with boyfriend to Plaza Indonesia.. yayy!! it's been a while since we had our last date, blame it to Central Bank who regulates banks to submit the monthly report on 5th the following month *curcol* haha..

okay, sorry for that.. that week (it's been a while), Fish & Co. had a promotion with Mega Credit Card for a 50% discount on food with minimum payment of Rp200,000.. we're just human and can't resist the power of discount haha.. so we went there for lunch.. quite bored with fish & chips menu.. we decided to pick Seafood Platter for 2 (Rp235,000++).. here's how it looked..

the platter consisted of seasonal fish (I guessed it was grilled dory fish), calamari, black tiger prawns & mussels in creamy garlic & lemon butter sauce served with french fries and butter rice.. the portion was huge.. I think it was enough for 3-4 girls haha..

I love the calamari best since they were crunchy and perfectly matched the garlic and lemon butter sauce.. it was my first time trying Fish & Co.'s butter rice and I like it so much.. it had nice texture and unique taste, which just made me kept digging for more and forget about diet at all.. other menu were just okay for me.. they're not too special, though they were above average.. I think it's a good choice other than their signature fish & chips.. again, me want another spoon of butter rice, please..

Seribu Rasa

a few weeks ago, I had a nice, warm lunch with old high school friends.. at first, it was just the three of us, then another two come to join.. ended with watching 'no strings attached' joined with another different friend.. haha.. it's a friend-Saturday for me.. anyway, for lunch, we decided to try Seribu Rasa, literally means 'Thousands Flavors' located in Menteng area.. this restaurant specialized in Indonesian and Asian -mostly South East Asia- culinary.. it is managed by the same group managing Penang Bistro and Hong Kong Cafe..

welcome

main dining area

a corner in the main dining room

private room
it's beautifully decorated with a touch of Indonesia traditional heritage, which I really like.. this restaurant offers a calm and elegant dining experience.. it's suitable for a big family feast or a romantic candle light dinner :) the restaurant is quite spacious and the toilet was the best.. unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the toilet, well, I'm doing 'my business' there :P I think I'm really stunned by how they decorate the place, showing how much they were into this business.. oh, and I also loved the little shell vase filled with flowers and available in each table.. little things do matter :)

all right, off to the menu.. like I've said before, Seribu Rasa offers various menu, focusing in Indonesian and South-East Asian dishes.. in the drink and dessert section, they offers quite a lot of drinks that I didn't get the chance to go through one-by-one..thinking that we're having quite a big lunch, I decided to order tea as my drink to balance the amount of food going to my tummy.. chamomile honey tea (Rp16,000) was my choice.. I think it'll be a great combination, the healthy honey and the light chamomile..

when that drinks came, I was kinda surprise.. it was a cup of tea cost Rp16,000 yet it was served in a see-through cup, around 12cm tall, which was similar to teacups used in hawker coffee shop.. and it's not refillable.. so I have to satisfy my thirst -again, by paying Rp16,000+tax- for a really small cup of tea.. luckily, the taste of the tea tasted really good.. just as I thought, the honey went really well with the aromatic chamomile..  nice, warm and relaxing.. a good way to start a lunch :)

here comes the food.. first to be served was oyster omelette (Rp45,000).. fried  egg filled with oysters and served with sweet sauce.. this typical dish was quite famous in Singapore, if I'm not mistaken.. however, Seribu Rasa's oyster omelette was more like Chinese fu yung hai.. the egg was too thick, I guess.. as for the taste, it was good.. the oysters were fresh and went well with the egg and sweet sauce.. eat it with one plate of hot rice and you'll get your tongue spoiled..

next we have Tom Yam Prawn Pattaya (Rp75,000).. apparently, they also served this Thailand's special dish.. it was served in a big pot.. I have to say that this is the star of the lunch.. the prawns were huge and generous.. even the soup tasted really good.. I just can't stop my hand from pouring another spoon of soup to my bowl.. the herbs was enough and not overpowering the prawns.. the prawns were tender and huge.. four thumbs up :)

for the veggie, we ordered Daun Singkong Tumbuk (Rp39,000), or literally means crushed cassava leaves.. crushed cassava leaves dish was originated from North Sumatra or Batak area.. actually, cassava leaves was also used in Padang cookings, but not crushed.. the way of cooking from both area were similar, since both used coconut milk.. Seribu Rasa's cassava leaves was just okay for me.. I mean, I can find similar dish in much cheaper price.. my other friend was a fan, though.. it tasted just okay for me :) oh, I have to warn you that the portion of their rice (Rp7,500) was so small.. guys, you better ask for two portions, unless you're on a diet.. girls, don't event think of sharing the rice with your other girlfriends..

we are greedy.. not enough with the main courses, we continued our lunch with two desserts.. yes, TWO for the three of us :)
we opted es campur seribu rasa (Rp24,000) and ketan hitam mangga (Rp28,000).. es campur was supposed to be filled with lots of fillings, including coconut, cincau, cendol, pomegranate, avocado and tape.. well, this one is also filled with those stuff, only in much smaller portions.. it was then served with mango juice -or mango syrup?-.. basically, the one plus point I get from es campur seribu rasa was the good taste of mango juice poured on top of the ice.. other fillings were just standard.. for the ketan hitam mangga, it was black sticky rice with slices of fresh mango poured with coconut milk.. it was yummy and unique.. I've never felt this dessert before, so it offers another taste of Asian desert.. turns out that mangoes and black sticky rice was a good combination..

overall.. I had a great lunch experience here.. it was quite pricey since it was a fine-dining restaurant, but worth for some of the meals.. I think what made it great was I was accompanied by good friends, good talk, loud laughters and it had made my Saturday..
